CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) — Photos of six U.S. service members killed in the ongoing operation in Iran were displayed in Clovis as residents gathered to honor them.<\/p>\n
Community members learned Friday that a seventh service member had also died from injuries suffered in an Iranian attack.<\/p>\n
Dozens of people visited the display, placing flowers and candles in front of the images of the fallen. The tribute drew emotional responses, as the conflict with Iran entered its ninth day.<\/p>\n
Some in attendance voiced support for the operation, including Iranian Americans who say they welcome the shift in Iran’s leadership.<\/p>\n
Mehdi Ghajar, an Iranian American, said, “95 million people from Iran, 90 million within and 5 million diaspora, including 2 million Iranian Americans, are very grateful for the intervention and the risk that the servicemen and women are putting their lives in fighting this genocidal regime. We’re extremely grateful.”<\/p>\n
The memorial holds particular significance in Clovis. Buchanan High School, just a short distance away, lost eight alumni in previous wars in the Middle East, among the highest totals for any school in the country.<\/p>\n
Those hometown heroes, residents said, were on their minds as they gathered to remember the seven service members killed in the current crisis.<\/p>\n
