{"id":512389,"date":"2026-03-09T05:16:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T05:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/512389\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T05:16:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T05:16:08","slug":"beloved-flamingo-peachy-recovering-after-alleged-attack-by-tourist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/512389\/","title":{"rendered":"Beloved flamingo &#8216;Peachy&#8217; recovering after alleged attack by tourist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAS VEGAS (KSNV) \u2014 A 27-year-old flamingo named Peachy is expected to make a full recovery after police alleged the bird <a href=\"https:\/\/news3lv.com\/news\/local\/canadian-man-arrested-after-allegedly-torturing-flamingo-at-las-vegas-hotel#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">was choked and tortured by a Canadian tourist<\/a> who breached the Flamingo hotel\u2019s wildlife habitat Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Peachy is one of six flamingos who stay at the Flamingo hotel\u2019s wildlife habitat. <\/p>\n<p>The habitat was breached Wednesday morning when police said a Canadian tourist allegedly trespassed into the area and began chasing flamingos around before grabbing Peachy and taking him to his hotel room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease don&#8217;t enter enclosures. Please don&#8217;t spook them. It&#8217;s not funny. It&#8217;s actually really, really scary and can be detrimental to their health,\u201d Dr. Tiffany Moore said.<\/p>\n<p>Police identified the suspect as Mitchell Fairbarn. Investigators said Fairbarn can be seen on video choking the flamingo and throwing him to the ground many times.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Moore, the medical director at Lone Mountain Animal Hospital, said she cares for many exotic pets, including the flamingos at the Flamingo Hotel: Peachy, Blackjack, Bugsy, Pitbull, Omega and Bubbalicious.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I saw Peachy, he was bright and alert and responsive, and he was stable, but there were some minor injuries to his wings,\u201d Dr. Moore said.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the visitor was intoxicated and told officers he grabbed Peachy and attempted to \u201cpop his wing back into place.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Investigators said they found a bloody feather in Fairbarn\u2019s hotel room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were a couple blood feathers that were injured and we took care of that with pain meds to help support because it is painful very similar to ripping off a fingernail,\u201d Moore said.<\/p>\n<p>Moore said animals like Peachy can also suffer from capture myopathy, a potentially deadly condition caused by extreme stress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere you capture an animal, their body builds up a lot of stress. It also causes a lot of acid buildup, which can eventually lead to death,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Moore said Peachy did not show any signs of capture myopathy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs of right now, he&#8217;s alert, he&#8217;s doing well.
