\u201cThe View\u201d cohosts hit back at Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet after the actor\u2019s anti-ballet and opera comments went viral.<\/a><\/p>\n

Chalamet caught heat when he called the ballet and opera dying art forms that \u201cno one cares about anymore\u201d in a town hall with Matthew McConaughey that aired on CNN.<\/p>\n

On Monday\u2019s episode of \u201cThe View,\u201d<\/a> Sunny Hostin said that as a member of the Dance Theatre of Harlem, she was \u201coffended and disappointed\u201d in the actor\u2019s comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t realize he was that vapid and that shallow,\u201d she bluntly stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe View\u201d co-hosts hit back at Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet on Monday\u2019s episode after the actor\u2019s comments that opera and ballet are dying art forms nobody cares about anymore went viral. ABC<\/p>\n

Sunny Hostin (pictured on the left) said of Chalamet, \u201cI didn\u2019t realize he was that vapid and that shallow.\u201d ABC<\/p>\n

Sheryl Underwood, who was filling in for Alyssa Farah Grriffin while she\u2019s on maternity leave<\/a>, chalked up the moment to Chalamet \u2014 who\u2019s 30 years old \u2014 being \u201cyoung.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you sitting with Matthew McConaughey and y\u2019all kiki-ing and chopping it up \u2026 I think he thought he could say that,\u201d she said. \u201cFirst, he just made the good ping-pong movie. He\u2019s a young, handsome man, but I bet if he was playing [dancer] Rudolf Nureyev\u2026 he\u2019d respect the art form a little bit better.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat goes to show a lot of young people need to understand, don\u2019t just flip off and say something,\u201d she continued. \u201cReally understand that your words have meaning to other young people.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Whoopi Goldberg wasn\u2019t willing to give Chalamet any grace, especially given that his mother and sister have worked in ballet.<\/a><\/p>\n

The EGOT-winner called Chalamet an immature \u201cboy.\u201d ABC<\/p>\n

\u201cYou come from a dance family, and so when you crap on somebody else\u2019s art form, it doesn\u2019t feel good,\u201d she explained. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t feel good to see.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also had an issue with Chalamet joking after his comments insulting ballet and opera, \u201cAll respect to the ballet and opera people out there \u2026 I just lost 14 cents in viewership.\u201d<\/p>\n

Goldberg mused, \u201cYou probably didn\u2019t realize, until you said, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m in trouble,\u2019 but then you compounded it, and said, \u201914 cents\u2019 \u2014 no, when people get mad, it\u2019ll be a lot more than 14 cents.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo be careful,\u201d she continued. \u201cI\u2019m just saying. Be careful, boy.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the audience reacted in shock to her comments, she doubled down.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is a boy to me,\u201d Goldberg stressed. \u201cNo disrespect. Really, don\u2019t apologize when you\u2019ve insulted \u2019cause it doesn\u2019t sound right. You can\u2019t say, \u2018Oh, this is dumb, no disrespect.\u2019 That\u2019s absolute disrespect.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Chalamet\u2019s ballet and opera diss caused outrage over the weekend, he\u2019s actually said similar comments before<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While promoting \u201cThe King\u201d back in 2019, he reflected on his start as an actor, sharing, \u201cNo \u2018woe is me\u2019 thing, but you start working on movies, you start acting, pursuing your thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
