{"id":515196,"date":"2026-03-10T15:00:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-10T15:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/515196\/"},"modified":"2026-03-10T15:00:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T15:00:10","slug":"kraft-architects-clads-an-unfinished-house-with-corrugated-steel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/515196\/","title":{"rendered":"Kraft Architects clads An Unfinished House with corrugated steel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/corrugated-metal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Corrugated metal<\/a> cloaks the long, narrow form of An Unfinished House, a minimalist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/japanese-houses\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">house<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/japan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Japan<\/a> designed by Tokyo studio Kraft Architects.<\/p>\n<p>Located on a leftover plot in the suburbs of Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture, the home was created for the family of a local carpenter, who worked closely with Kraft Architects to design and build its timber-framed structure.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kraft-architects.jp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kraft Architects<\/a> made a feature of the long, narrow site, organising the home as a sequence of rooms that lead seamlessly into one another, lined with full-height vertical windows on either side.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2304206 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/kraft-architects-an-unfinished-house-japan_dezeen_2364_col_4-852x639.jpg\" alt=\"Exterior view of Japanese home by Kraft Architects\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Kraft Architects has completed a minimalist home in Japan<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The site is characterised by clearly articulated yet overlapping scales \u2013 residential neighbourhoods, farmland and distant mountains \u2013 forming a layered environment,&#8221; lead architects Atsushi Nakamura and Hirari Sato told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The elongated volume is placed horizontally to engage these layered views, allowing everyday life to unfold alongside shifting fragments of scenery,&#8221; they added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Rather than fixed rooms, spatial meaning emerges through movement, light and daily behaviour.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2304229 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/kraft-architects-an-unfinished-house-japan_dezeen_2364_col_16-852x639.jpg\" alt=\"Exterior view of An Unfinished House\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Corrugated metal sheets cloak the home&#8217;s timber structure<\/p>\n<p>The route through An Unfinished House, dubbed the &#8220;Axis of Life&#8221; by the studio, begins to the west with a sheltered terrace that was informed by a traditional doma \u2013 a semi-outdoor space for tasks that might make the interior of the home dirty.<\/p>\n<p>The entrance leads from a tatami room, through a central living, kitchen and dining room before ending with the children&#8217;s space and main bedroom to the east.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2304224 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/kraft-architects-an-unfinished-house-japan_dezeen_2364_col_11-852x639.jpg\" alt=\"View of An Unfinished House by Kraft Architects\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>It has a sheltered terrace that references traditional doma<\/p>\n<p>In the centre of An Unfinished House, a pantry and bathrooms occupy pods on either side of the main axis, creating a narrower, corridor-like threshold between the living and bedroom spaces.<\/p>\n<p>In the larger rooms, exposed timber columns act as &#8220;subtle anchors&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2026\/02\/10\/denizen-works-house-onomichi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/denizen-works-house-onomichi-japan-setonai-islands_dezeen_2364_sq_16-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"House in Onimichi by Denizen Works\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p> Denizen Works designs Japanese house with &#8220;enigmatic quality&#8221;\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A series of structural columns operates as an architectural device that organises relationships rather than defining hierarchy,&#8221;
