Joe Mazzulla praised Baylor Scheierman\u2019s competitiveness and work ethic following the Celtics\u2019 109-98 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers<\/a> Sunday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe doesn\u2019t care about anything except competing, and that doesn\u2019t get rewarded enough,\u201d Mazzulla, a frontrunner for NBA Coach of the Year, said of Scheierman, according to Forbes\u2019 Bobby Krivitsky\u2019s X post.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Scheierman delivered one of his most productive performances<\/a> of the season in the victory, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double in 26 minutes. In the second half alone, the first-round pick in the 2024 draft<\/a> knocked down three of his four 3-pointers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The performance continued a stretch of increased opportunity for Scheierman while Jayson Tatum<\/a> worked his way back from injury<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Scheierman made 16 starts during Tatum\u2019s absence \u2014 but even after Tatum\u2019s return, Scheierman continues to pick up the minutes. He played 21 minutes against the Mavericks on Friday<\/a> and 25 minutes against the Cavaliers on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Despite Scheierman suffering a thumb fracture<\/a> last week, Mazzulla said he has remained a \u201cconnector\u201d for the team.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Overall, Scheierman has appeared in 59 games this season, averaging 4.8 points in 16.5 minutes per game while shooting 38.9% from 3-point range. He is also averaging 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists.<\/p>\n
