{"id":51699,"date":"2025-08-01T04:27:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-01T04:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/51699\/"},"modified":"2025-08-01T04:27:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-01T04:27:09","slug":"guangzhou-and-shenzhen-once-chinas-growth-engines-report-gdp-underperformance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/51699\/","title":{"rendered":"Guangzhou and Shenzhen, once China\u2019s growth engines, report GDP underperformance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Two cities that have served as economic pillars for China\u2019s southern province of Guangdong appear to be losing steam relative to their peers, prompting calls for stronger action to revive businesses.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/economy\/china-economy\/article\/3313966\/china-plans-turn-shenzhen-ai-and-aviation-hub-amid-us-sanctions?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tech hub Shenzhen<\/a> and manufacturing centre Guangzhou reported gross domestic product growth of 5.1 and 3.8 per cent respectively in the period from January to June, both below the national average of 5.3 per cent.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The simultaneous slowdown came as uncertainty grips the global supply chain and domestic demand fails to make up the shortfall, analysts said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cShenzhen is facing dual headwinds from weakening global demand and a local property downturn, particularly in the commercial real estate sector, which has dragged down both exports and investment,\u201d said Peng Peng, executive chairman of the Guangdong Society of Reform, a think tank affiliated with the provincial government.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Shenzhen\u2019s decline is particularly notable.
