\n\tThe ongoing reverberations from Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet\u2019s remarks about ballet and opera don\u2019t appear to be dying down anytime soon, with fresh backlash this time coming from someone who helped market his last film. <\/p>\n
\n\tBallet dancer Misty Copeland<\/a> \u2014\u00a0who was used in the promotion for \u201cMarty Supreme\u201d \u2014\u00a0has now taken aim at the Oscar-nominated actor over comments made during\u00a0\u201cA CNN & Variety Town Hall Event\u201d<\/a>\u00a0in which he said he didn\u2019t want theatrical movie going to end up like the \u201cballet or opera,\u201d where artists want to \u201ckeep this thing alive\u201d even though \u201cno one cares\u201d about it anymore.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cFirst I have to say that it\u2019s very interesting that he invited me to be a part of promoting \u2018Marty Supreme\u2019 with respect to my art form,\u201d Copeland said during a panel for Aveeno. Copeland wore a \u201cMarty Supreme\u201d-branded jacket in an Instagram post in late 2025, while another post shared on the film\u2019s official Instagram account showed her as a child ballet dancer and featured the caption \u201cDream Big.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI think that it\u2019s important that we acknowledge that, yes, this is an art form that\u2019s not \u2018popular\u2019 and a part of pop culture as movies are, but that doesn\u2019t mean it doesn\u2019t have enduring relevance in culture.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tIn the clip shared on social media, Copeland also said that there was \u201ca reason that the opera and ballet have been around for over 400 years,\u201d adding that \u201c[Chalamet] wouldn\u2019t be an actor and have the opportunities he has as a movie star if it weren\u2019t for opera and ballet and their relevance in that medium. So all of these mediums have a space and we shouldn\u2019t be comparing them.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe comments from Copeland add to what\u2019s been a growing criticism from the ballet and opera communities since Chalamet\u2019s remarks began circulating. <\/p>\n
