Frances Tiafoe is one of tennis\u2019 most dynamic and personable individuals, promising to bring the energy wherever he goes.<\/p>\n

He feeds off supporting crowds like few others on tour, and has an all-action play style that gets fans off their seats.<\/p>\n

However, he is also very emotional, and at times can be accused of allowing them to get the better of him.<\/p>\n

His frequent run-ins with chair umpires would certainly support that notion, with the Canadian Open<\/a> the latest tournament to end up on the receiving end of one of his rants.<\/p>\n

Alas, this time he ended his conversation with umpire Fergus Murphy on an upbeat note.<\/p>\n

Every word of Frances Tiafoe\u2019s conversation with Canadian Open umpire<\/p>\n

This feud began when Frances Tiafoe<\/a> audibly swore in celebration after holding serve in the second set, sparking the umpire to issue him a warning.<\/p>\n

He reasoned: \u201cYou swore out loud. There are microphones everywhere. It might be positive, but it\u2019s still offensive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tiafoe argued: \u201cYou can\u2019t give me a code if I\u2019m positively reinforcing myself, it doesn\u2019t matter what I say. Offended by what? I wasn\u2019t saying anything to anybody. You can\u2019t give me a code for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I can,\u201d the umpire retorted. \u201cDon\u2019t say it again, but it does matter what you say. It might be positive to you, but other people might get offended by that word. Frances, that\u2019s the rule. I\u2019m explaining. You\u2019ve already got a code for that. I just wanted to make sure you knew.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later on in the match, a time violation prompted the following sarcastic ramble from Tiafoe: \u201cLove you, Ferg. I love you brother. You do a great job up there, man. You really do, honestly. I\u2019m happy how long your tenure has been, it\u2019s been great. I love having you up there. You do excellent. Incredible stuff, dude. Carry on.\u201d <\/p>\n

Alas, upon exiting the court after finally beating Yosuke Watanuki, the 27-year-old said to Murphy: \u201cFerg, you could\u2019ve really f\u2014\u2014- me, but you didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, but I know, I\u2019m not saying it in a bad way. I\u2019m saying you could\u2019ve got me up out of here, at least a game penalty, and you didn\u2019t. You could\u2019ve, you know that. I\u2019m saying it in a good way.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was a positive end to what could have been a sour encounter, not unlike when Tiafoe swore at an umpire<\/a> back in October last year.<\/p>\n

Frances Tiafoe clashes with another umpire<\/p>\n

This is not the first time we have seen Tiafoe clash with a chair umpire, nor will it likely be the last.<\/p>\n

Alas, it is his emotional approach to the sport, combined with his unflinching desire to win, that can often see these unsavoury moments crop up.<\/p>\n

The American will want to rein in this behaviour, but will also be aware that it is what makes him so intriguing to supporters.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a fine line between taking it too far and, on occasion, even he will admit he has crossed it.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, this situation was deescalated, and he reached an amicable conclusion with the umpire.
