In her latest bit of grandstanding, state Attorney General Letitia James ordered NYU Langone hospital to resume \u201cgender-affirming care\u201d for minors by March 11 \u2014 or else . . . what?<\/p>\n

NYU Langone Health quite rightly called her bluff \u2014 right as a matter of law, and of basic decency.<\/p>\n

Yes, it was Trump administration pressure that prompted Langone\u2019s mid-February move to discontinue its Transgender Youth Health Program, which offered puberty blockers<\/a> and hormone treatments to adolescents and younger children diagnosed as being in the \u201cwrong\u201d body. <\/p>\n

That canceled appointments with two 12-year-olds to get implants that would drip drugs into their bodies to stop them from entering puberty.<\/p>\n

Advocates call that demented procedure \u201clifesaving\u201d<\/a> and fully reversible; it is neither, even if not as radical as the full-on surgical transition that the same advocates also lie about. <\/p>\n

The ugly truths about \u201cgender-affirming care\u201d<\/a> are why Team Trump moved to ban federal funding for any hospital that offers it.<\/p>\n

James joined 19 other states in suing the Department of Health and Human Services, claiming that the feds overreached their authority \u2014 but the Social Security Act orders HHS to set standards of care <\/a>for facilities participating in Medicare or Medicaid, which provide nearly half of all US hospital revenue.<\/p>\n

The AG claims Langone<\/a> must obey a New York state law that requires hospitals \u201cto offer care without discrimination based on gender identity or expression.\u201d<\/p>\n

For starters, there\u2019s no \u201cgender discrimination\u201d here, nor is this stuff genuine health care: That some patients have a legitimate medical need for hormone therapy, or even mastectomies and other \u201ctrans\u201d procedures, doesn\u2019t make it kosher as \u201ctreatment\u201d for confused tweens and teens.<\/p>\n

James is simply embracing the ideological con job that insists otherwise, and posing as able to do something about it. <\/p>\n

Tellingly, her office has ducked our questions about her next steps: Does she mean to arrest doctors who refuse to mutilate children? Sue hospital administrators whose revenue will vanish if they obey her?<\/p>\n
