\n\tKerry Washington<\/a> is going all in as a \u201cHeated Rivalry<\/a>\u201d fan.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI just bought one of those candles on Instagram \u2014 an \u2018I\u2019m coming to the cottage\u2019 candle,\u201d she told me Tuesday at the premiere of her new Apple TV series \u201cImperfect Women<\/a>\u201d at the Academy Museum. \u201cI\u2019m obsessed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe nine-time Emmy nominee (she won in 2020 as a producer of Live In Front Of A Studio Audience: \u201cAll In The Family\u201d And \u201cGood Times\u201d) went so far as to call the queer hockey drama series \u201csome of the greatest television in the most recent decades.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBelieve it or not, but I did not bring up the show to Washington. Earlier on the carpet, her husband, former NFL star and now actor and producer Nnamdi Asomugha, told me she was a big fan. \u201cWhat\u2019s not to love about the show,\u201d Washington said. \u201cIt\u2019s a show about belonging. It\u2019s a show about acceptance. It\u2019s a show about finding love, accepting love and having the courage to love. It\u2019s also vey spicy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe recalled watching Scott Hunter (Fran\u00e7ois Arnaud) and Kip Grady\u2019s (Robbie G.K.) romance play out in Episode 3. \u201cThere are so many shows that try to do that kind of flashback bottle episode, but I was like, \u2018All of you go home and watch this. This is great television,\u2019\u201d Washington said. \u201cAt the end, I was literally screaming at the television.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tI suggested a football version of \u201cHeated Rivalry\u201d to Asomugha. \u201cOh, my goodness,\u201d he said. \u201cThat would be\u2026wow. I didn\u2019t even think of that. That\u2019s interesting. Wow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAsomugha didn\u2019t realize that \u201cHeated Rivalry\u201d has inspired some queer athletes to come out publicly<\/a>. \u201cThat is what art is meant to do,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s meant to empower you so that\u2019s great.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSeason 2 of \u201cHeated Rivalry\u201d was announced soon after the series premiered on HBO Max and Canadian streamer Crave in November with Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie reprising their starring roles as Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. Filming is expected to begin this summer, according to series creator Jacob Tierney<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cImperfect Women\u201d stars Washington, Elizabeth Moss and Kate Mara as three best friends whose lives are upended after a horrific tragedy. \u201cThese girls are messy,\u201d Washington said. \u201cThey\u2019re making mistakes and they\u2019re trying to figure out how to be honest.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe first two episodes of the series premiere on Apple TV on March 18.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOne of the things I\u2019m most proud of in this show is that we cover a lot of ground thematically, but also tonally,\u201d Washington said. \u201cThere are light moments, moments of humor, there\u2019s a lot of thriller, danger murder mystery stuff. There\u2019s a lot of romance and familial love.\u201d<\/p>\n
