{"id":521028,"date":"2026-03-13T11:21:15","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T11:21:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/521028\/"},"modified":"2026-03-13T11:21:15","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T11:21:15","slug":"jacksonville-emergency-medicine-physician-details-significance-of-new-freestanding-emergency-rooms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/521028\/","title":{"rendered":"Jacksonville emergency medicine physician details significance of new freestanding emergency rooms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  \u2013 Freestanding emergency rooms are meeting a significant need for people to have easier access to medical care, especially in the case of an emergency. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe are providing care and patients\u2019 backyards,\u201d said Dr. Shilpa Amin, who is the chief of emergency medicine at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital. \u201cThese are the same doctors who work at the main hospitals. They also work at the freestanding hospitals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">There are at least 20 free-standing emergency rooms in northeast Florida.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe can take care of stroke patients,\u201d Amin said. \u201cIf you\u2019re having a heart attack, if you are having sepsis, any trauma, [we can help you]. We can deliver babies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">These emergency rooms get people help faster, especially if they live far away from a main hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/local\/2026\/01\/23\/hca-memorial-jacksonville-opens-new-state-of-the-art-free-standing-emergency-room\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/local\/2026\/01\/23\/hca-memorial-jacksonville-opens-new-state-of-the-art-free-standing-emergency-room\/\">One in Arlington just opened in January.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Another one opened in St. Augustine in February. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIf somebody has sepsis, every minute counts,\u201d Dr. Amin said. \u201cWe want them to be able to get care immediately. If somebody\u2019s having a heart attack, we do not want them to have to drive another 15 minutes to get to a main hospital. We are literally saving lives and critical moments at these free-standing ERs. If there is something that requires true intervention, like you are having a migraine headache, and you need IV fluid or if you are having chest pain, you are having a stroke, you need to come to the emergency room.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Amin says a free-standing emergency room is equipped to handle all of that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">She showed one room called a negative pressure room.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIn this room, we put specific patients that have illnesses that could be very, very viral or get other patients sick in the hospital,\u201d Amin said. \u201cThe air that is in this room has a special process where it goes straight out of the building so that it is not recirculated at all to other patients.
