{"id":522168,"date":"2026-03-14T00:32:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-14T00:32:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/522168\/"},"modified":"2026-03-14T00:32:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-14T00:32:07","slug":"wrexham-2-0-swansea-mar-13-2026-game-analysis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/522168\/","title":{"rendered":"Wrexham 2-0 Swansea (Mar 13, 2026) Game Analysis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"\" data-mptype=\"image\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\"\/>Wrexham&#8217;s playoff hunt rolled on against rivals Swansea.<\/p>\n<p>A <a data-player-guid=\"eacec839-f94d-ec87-bc63-89154ddbff83\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/243334\/nathan-broadhead\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nathan Broadhead<\/a> strike and a <a data-player-guid=\"6edb71a4-7850-5e17-dc96-4751cea9ed3d\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/250786\/liam-cullen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liam Cullen<\/a> own goal saw Wrexham beat Swansea 2-0 in a Welsh derby at the ST\u014dK Cae Ras on Friday night to solidify their spot in the Championship top six.<\/p>\n<p>With their Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac on television commentary duties, the home side put on a show as Broadhead&#8217;s seventh Championship goal of the season &#8212; and second of the week &#8212; and a late Cullen own goal delivered the points.<\/p>\n<p>The pressure had been on Wrexham after Tuesday&#8217;s 2-1 home defeat to Hull, but Phil Parkinson&#8217;s first win over the Swans in 10 attempts lifted the Red Dragons six points clear of seventh-placed Southampton, who go away to leaders Coventry on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The stadium DJ celebrated by playing Drop It Like It&#8217;s Hot by Swansea investor Snoop Dogg at the final whistle.<\/p>\n<p>The Swans had travelled north looking to move to within two points of the top six themselves, but were unable to find a way past Arthur Okonkwo, who kept Wrexham&#8217;s first Championship clean sheet at home since November.<\/p>\n<p>Swansea started the brighter of the two teams, having their first sight of goal inside the opening minute as a loose pass from Callum Doyle allowed <a data-player-guid=\"742f09ab-c1d5-352b-8e55-1a01355e6740\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/306826\/goncalo-franco\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gon\u00e7alo Franco<\/a> to run at goal, but his tame shot was held by Okonkwo.<\/p>\n<p>The home side&#8217;s first real chance came in the ninth minute, but Broadhead&#8217;s looping header appeared to be heading wide before <a data-player-guid=\"282c2ef3-14d5-ff66-5aca-6e38af92a1b4\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/195816\/lawrence-vigouroux\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lawrence Vigouroux<\/a> made sure.<\/p>\n<p>Instead the visitors should have led when Franco&#8217;s pass sent <a data-player-guid=\"710f7a00-9987-37b7-83f5-4f43ededc479\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/322158\/zan-vipotnik\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zan Vipotnik<\/a> through on goal, but Okonkwo made a critical save as Swansea&#8217;s top-scorer did not get the power or placement needed to beat Wrexham&#8217;s goalkeeper.<\/p>\n<p>It was a pivotal moment as the hosts took the lead four minutes later. Doyle&#8217;s well-disguised pass picked out Broadhead on the left side of the box, and excellent footwork from the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"8185a878-0157-7fe7-9fa8-f1cb3812476b\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=578\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wales<\/a> man saw him sidestep <a data-player-guid=\"26fe8a2f-0ac4-03ab-ce39-1947119be21e\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/207350\/cameron-burgess\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cameron Burgess<\/a> and create the angle to power home under Vigouroux.<\/p>\n<p>Wrexham should have been 2-0 up five minutes before the break. Zak Vyner&#8217;s first-time pass released <a data-player-guid=\"4feb10d7-3e1b-ed2b-8a54-00ef0432454a\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/294427\/issa-kabore\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Issa Kabor\u00e9<\/a> down the right and his low cross found the run of Sam Smith, but he failed to get proper contact on the ball as an excellent chance went begging.<\/p>\n<p>The first half ended with Lewis O&#8217;Brien&#8217;s corner finding Doyle at the back post, but he could not direct the ball on target with Smith unable to stretch far enough to turn it in himself.<\/p>\n<p>The Red Dragons were straight back on to the front foot again in the second half, with Broadhead bending a shot narrowly wide after former Swansea midfielder O&#8217;Brien surged forward.<\/p>\n<p>Swansea wanted a penalty when Franco went down under Dominic Hyam&#8217;s challange, but referee Tom Neild was unmoved.<\/p>\n<p>A triple change from Vitor Matos injected more life into the visitors, who went close to an equaliser when <a data-player-guid=\"b81f9ad1-01ac-3401-a714-328dffe139cc\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/297798\/marko-stamenic\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marko Stamenic<\/a> hit a fiernce 65th-minute volley, but Okonkwo was equal once again.<\/p>\n<p>Swansea were not going down easily. With nine minutes left, something of a scramble inside the box ended with <a data-player-guid=\"b4ce0f5c-64a0-3aca-985f-edb01d276f79\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/359097\/malick-yalcouye\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Malick Yalcouy\u00e9<\/a> thumping a shot wide.<\/p>\n<p>However, Wrexham had the final word as Doyle got on the end of George Thomason&#8217;s deep cross two minutes from time and his header deflected in off Cullen to seal the points.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Wrexham&#8217;s playoff hunt rolled on against rivals Swansea.
