Trump said the operation intentionally avoided Iran\u2019s oil infrastructure. He warned that he might change his mind. <\/p>\n
\u201cOur weapons are the most powerful and sophisticated that the world has ever known,\u201d Trump wrote. “But for reasons of decency, I have chosen not to wipe out the oil infrastructure on the island. However, should Iran, or anyone else, do anything to interfere with the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider this decision.”<\/p>\n
The president also reiterated his long-standing position that Iran will not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, calling on Iranian military forces to stand down.<\/p>\n
“Iran will never have a nuclear weapon, nor will it have the ability to threaten the United States of America, the Middle East or, for that matter, the World!” Trump added. “Iran\u2019s military, and all others involved with this terrorist regime, would be wise to lay down their arms, and save what\u2019s left of their country, which isn\u2019t much!” <\/p>\n
The Pentagon has not yet released additional operational details about the strike, and Iranian officials have not immediately commented on the claims.
