TONIGHT, MANY OF WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA WILL SPEND THEIR WEEKEND CLEANING UP FROM TONIGHT’S HIGH WINDS. PITTSBURGH’S ACTION NEWS FOUR REPORTER JORDAN CIOPPA HAS BEEN OUT THERE TRACKING THE DAMAGE FOR US TONIGHT. SHE JOINS US LIVE FROM PENN HILLS. AND JORDAN, YOU’RE MONITORING A BRUSH FIRE CAUSED BY TONIGHT’S STORM, RIGHT? YEAH. MIKE. WELL, THAT BRUSH FIRE IS NOW OUT IN THE DEPUTY FIRE. CHIEF HERE ON SCENE TELLS ME EVERYONE IS SAFE NOW. BUT EARLIER THIS EVENING, THE FIRE WAS ABLE TO CLIMB UP THIS HILL BEHIND ME, GETTING VERY CLOSE TO THAT APARTMENT COMPLEX. STRONG WINDS FRIDAY NIGHT FANNED THE FLAMES OF A MASSIVE BRUSH FIRE IN THE WOODS NEAR HUNTER AND SPRINGWOOD ROADS IN PENN HILLS. WHEN WE GOT TO IT, THERE WAS NO WAY FOR ANY OF US TO GET TO. THE WIND TOOK IT OFF AND IT STARTED RUNNING UP THE HILL AND WE HELD IT FROM CROSSING THE ROAD. DEPUTY CHIEF SHAWN SNYDER WITH PENN HILLS 224, ESTIMATED THE FIRE STRETCHED ABOUT 20 ACRES. SNYDER SAYS HE BELIEVES THE WIND MAY HAVE SNAPPED TWO HIGH TENSION WIRES, BUT CREWS COULDN’T REACH THE ORIGIN POINT TO KNOW FOR SURE. THE FIRE PROMPTED A PARTIAL EVACUATION OF THE HUNTER GARDEN COURT APARTMENTS BECAUSE OF HOW CLOSE THE FLAMES WERE, BUT WE HELD IT AND THERE WERE NO HOUSES OTHER THAN THIS APARTMENT BUILDING HERE. THE WIND WREAKED HAVOC ALL OVER WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA, LIKE HERE ON INGOMAR ROAD IN NORTH PARK, WHERE IT BROUGHT DOWN A TREE AND WIRES. WE GOT REPORT OF A ROOF THAT BLEW COMPLETELY OFF OF A HOUSE. THIS HAPPENED ON MCNEELY AVENUE IN DORMONT, THE RUBBER MEMBRANE THAT COVERS THE ROOF COULD BE SEEN DRAPED OVER THE HOUSE. LUCKILY, NO ONE WAS HURT. NO INJURIES. FORTUNATELY, THERE’S ONLY TWO. TWO OF THE FOUR PEOPLE WERE HOME AND THEY’RE ON THE SIDE, FURTHER DOWN FROM WHERE THE ROOF BLEW OFF. SO WE GOT THEM OUT. NOW FIRE CREWS ARE ASKING PEOPLE TO AVOID THIS AREA IF Y

Thousands of power outages amid high winds in Western Pennsylvania

   Updated: 11:20 PM EDT Mar 13, 2026

  Editorial Standards ⓘ

Powerful wind gusts were moving through western Pennsylvania and causing damage in many areas Friday night. As of 11 p.m., Duquesne Light reported that over 150,000 customers were without power.
