Sharon Connors<\/p>\n

Sharon Connors<\/a> loves the art in Denver<\/a>. She started collecting it several years ago when she lived in Colorado Springs and would come to the Mile High for mural festivals, gallery shows, festivals and street art.<\/p>\n

Now based in Arvada, Connors has a collection of over 140 pieces of locally-made art \u2014 everything from paintings to stickers, coffee mugs, jewelry, clothes and shoes. \u201cThere are so many artists that I\u2019ve followed for years,\u201d she says. \u201cI love watching them evolve into different phases, different art.\u201d<\/p>\n

Artists whose work Connors has acquired include Andrea Fischer<\/a>, Joshua Ryuju<\/a>, Chris Haven<\/a>, Robyn Frances and many more.<\/p>\n

\"AConnors collects all kinds of art made by local creators.<\/p>\n

Many of the artists have been curious about her collection, Connors says, so on Sunday, March 15, she\u2019ll display as much of it as she can at the Department of Creative Pursuits in an evening event called \u201cSharon\u2019s Art Bash.\u201d It\u2019s a celebration of Denver artists, and herself: Connors\u2019s birthday is the day before.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s kind of like having a big party, but not at your house,\u201d she notes.<\/p>\n

Connors is a member of the Department of Creative Pursuits<\/a>, a creative hub and production studio in the Ballpark neighborhood. \u201cI haven\u2019t curated a show,\u201d she says. \u201cI don\u2019t know if I\u2019m ready for that. But I thought, I already have all of this art, so why shouldn\u2019t I share it?\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019ll be the first time the collection has left its place on the walls and shelves of her house. \u201cThere are a few pieces that can go out in the main rooms, but we have a one-story home, so I took over the bedroom, and it\u2019s more like a gallery office,\u201d Connors says. \u201cI\u2019ve gone over the windows, the doors, the shelves \u2013 wherever I can squeeze it in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Connors, who is retired, says she gives herself a weekly art allowance to use to support Denver artists. \u201cSince I\u2019m running out of space, it gets smaller and smaller. I might have to expand to the guest room,\u201d she laughs.<\/p>\n

While she doesn\u2019t usually make her own art, Connors has tried a few art classes and is open to trying more. \u201cAt this time, it\u2019s important to be able to still be creative,\u201d she says. And that\u2019s why she loves encouraging local artists.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomeone said, \u2018Life is art,’\u201d Connors concludes. \u201cAnd I\u2019m like, \u2018Yeah, definitely, at my house.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Sharon\u2019s Art Bash<\/a> runs from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday, March 15, at the Department of Creative Pursuits<\/a>, 2150 Market Street. The event is free, and there will be snacks and beverages.<\/p>\n
