Two Boston Red Sox<\/a> teammates were pitted against each other when Jarren Duran led Mexico into a World Baseball Classic matchup against Roman Anthony and the United States.<\/p>\n

Monday’s game went perfectly for American Red Sox fans. Duran homered twice, but Anthony crushed a massive three-run shot<\/a> in the third inning of Team USA’s 5-3 win at Daikin Park. Garrett Whitlock nailed down the save with a scoreless ninth inning.<\/p>\n

The U.S. advanced past pool play before earning a quarterfinal victory over Canada on Friday night. On the other hand, Duran is back with the Red Sox after Mexico lost to Italy on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Anthony played a huge part in sending Mexico home, but Duran has no animosity<\/a> toward his teammate. The 29-year-old reflected on the rising young star’s big WBC moment on Saturday, via NESN’s X account.<\/p>\n

“It was hard not to be proud of him to do that,” Duran said. “I mean, we all know he’s a stud. For him to do that is super exciting, but I hope they go out and do their thing and continue to play good.”<\/p>\n

Duran said he’ll “of course” keep watching the WBC. The California native is rooting for Anthony, Whitlock and Team USA in a seismic semifinal showdown against the Dominican Republic on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

“I love watching baseball,” Duran said. “I can never get enough of it, so I’ll definitely be watching it and cheering for the boys.”<\/p>\n
