(WCAX) &#8211; City Market in Burlington says it has cut 12 positions amid continuing financial struggles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The downtown co-op cited declining sales, inflation, and a challenging business climate in Burlington\u2019s downtown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThese decisions were not made lightly, and our focus remains on ensuring that City Market, Onion River Co-op can continue serving our community in a sustainable way,\u201d General Manager John Tashiro said in a statement to WCAX.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcax.com\/2025\/06\/18\/years-after-expansion-city-market-struggles-make-profit\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wcax.com\/2025\/06\/18\/years-after-expansion-city-market-struggles-make-profit\/\">In an interview with Seven Days last year<\/a>, co-op officials said sales at the co-op have stagnated since the pandemic, and the business is losing money each year \u2014 close to $470,000 in FY \u201824. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">It comes nine years after the co-op expanded, opening a store in the South End.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 WCAX.
