(KOLN) -A set of bronze bison sculptures made a stop outside Morrill Hall on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus Saturday, joining the university\u2019s mammoth statue, Archie, before continuing a journey of more than 1,600 miles from Colorado to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The sculptures were created by Gary Staab, a Grand Island native. Staab said the process took a full year, beginning with a miniature scale model before moving to a 4,000-year-old technique of pouring hot metal into wax molds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Staab said stopping in Nebraska carried personal significance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt gives me a huge amount of Nebraska pride, stopping here and the history I have with my whole family that lives here in Nebraska,\u201d Staab said. \u201cIt\u2019s really humbling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Before arriving at their permanent home at the Smithsonian, the statues are scheduled to make two additional stops \u2014 in Iowa City and Chicago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.1011now.com\/newsletter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Click here<\/a> to subscribe to our 10\/11 NOW daily digest and breaking news alerts delivered straight to your email inbox.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 KOLN.
