Contamination of soil and groundwater could have generational impacts.\u201d<\/p>\n Israel \u201cmust be punished for its war crimes\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n Share<\/a><\/p>\n Donald Trump is said to be working to build a coalition of countries that will attempt to reopen the strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n The US president hopes to unveil the list later this week, Axios reported<\/a>, citing four unnamed sources.<\/p>\n Over the weekend, Trump claimed that \u201cmany countries\u201d would send warships to the region \u2013 before publicly urging a string of countries to do so. The response has been muted<\/a>, my colleague Hannah Ellis-Petersen reported from Dubai.<\/p>\n Share<\/a>Japan not sending ships to strait of Hormuz<\/p>\n Japan has said it will not send warships \u201cat the moment\u201d to help reopen the strait of Hormuz, after Donald Trump<\/a> urged countries to join a \u201cteam effort\u201d to protect vessels from Iranian strikes.<\/p>\n The strait has been all but closed since the start of the war, raising fears for energy supplies. A fifth of global oil supplies typically pass through.<\/p>\n The US president repeatedly pressed countries to help secure the waterway this weekend \u2013 specifically naming China, France, Japan, South Korea and the UK \u2013 and earlier warned<\/a> that Nato faces a \u201cvery bad\u201d future if its members fail to step up.<\/p>\n \u201cIn the current Iran<\/a> situation, we are not at the moment considering issuing a maritime security operation,\u201d Japanese defence minister Shinjiro Koizumi told the country\u2019s parliament.<\/p>\n In the UK, ministers are drawing up plans to send minesweeping drones to the strait, my colleague Kiran Stacey reported earlier<\/a>, amid concerns in Whitehall that complying with Trump\u2019s demand to send ships could escalate the crisis.<\/p>\n Australia has also confirmed it will not send ships. \u201cWe know how incredibly important that is, but that\u2019s not something we\u2019ve been asked, or we\u2019re contributing to,\u201d transport minister Catherine King told national broadcaster ABC.<\/p>\n Share<\/a><\/p>\n The fire near Dubai\u2019s international airport is contained, according to authorities.<\/p>\n \u201cDubai Civil Defence teams confirm that the situation remains under control, with no spread of the fire,\u201d Dubai\u2019s media office said in a statement. \u201cNo injuries reported.\u201d<\/p>\n Flights were suspended<\/a> from the airport a short time ago.<\/p>\n Share<\/a><\/p>\n Iran has arrested 500 people accused of sharing information with enemies, the Islamic Republic\u2019s police chief has said.<\/p>\n Half of those cases had involved serious incidents \u201cincluding people who provided information for hitting targets and individuals who took footage of strike locations and sent them\u201d. Photograph: Vahid Salemi\/AP<\/p>\n In north-western Iran, the semi-official Tasnim news agency said, 20 people were arrested on accusations by the provincial prosecutor\u2019s office of sending location details on Iran\u2019s military and security assets to Israel.<\/p>\n In north-eastern Iran, which has remained relatively untouched by airstrikes, Tasnim reported the arrest of 10 people, with some accused of collecting information on sensitive locations and economic infrastructure.<\/p>\n The Student News Network said three people were detained in the western province of Lorestan for \u201cseeking to disturb public opinion … and burn mourning symbols\u201d.<\/p>\n Israel has begun targeting security checkpoints based on tip-offs from informants on the ground, representing a new phase of its assault on Iran, a source briefed on Israel\u2019s military strategy told Reuters last week.<\/p>\n Share<\/a><\/p>\n Updated at\u00a022.21 EDT<\/p>\n Flights suspended at Dubai airport after fire<\/p>\n Dubai authorities have temporarily suspended flights at the city\u2019s international airport after a \u201cdrone incident\u201d caused a fire in the area.<\/p>\n The Dubai media office said a little earlier that Dubai civil defence teams had contained the fire, which resulted \u201cfrom impact to one of the fuel tanks\u201d in the vicinity of the airport.<\/p>\n The office later posted on X<\/a>:<\/p>\n double quotation markDubai Civil Aviation Authority announces the temporary suspension of flights at Dubai International Airport as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all passengers and staff.<\/p>\n Travellers are advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest updates regarding their flights.
