Kristin Cabot is pushing back against the narrative behind the viral \u201cColdplay Kiss Cam<\/a>\u201d moment that derailed her career.<\/p>\n

The former Astronomer HR executive claimed that her relationship with then-CEO Andy Byron was a byproduct of a high-intensity professional culture where sharing desks and social drinks were standard practice during an upcoming appearance on \u201cThe Oprah Podcast.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the global speculation about an illicit affair, Cabot maintained that she was already separated from her husband at the time and that he was aware of her \u201cvery close\u201d working relationship with Byron. Cabot explained <\/a>that her daughter alerted her to the fact that her estranged husband was attending the same Coldplay concert she was at with Byron on that fateful night.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy daughter\u2019s like, \u2018This is so fun! Great!\u2019 \u2026 and in my mind I thought, \u2018Well, that\u2019s\u2026 is this going to be weird if he sees me with Andy? Like, if I run into him,’\u201d she told Oprah.<\/p>\n

Cabot\u2019s momentary worry<\/a> didn\u2019t linger for long.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut then I was like, I\u2019m at Gillette Stadium, there\u2019s 55,000 people here. I\u2019m probably not going to run into him. But it doesn\u2019t matter \u2013 I mean, it would have been better at the end of the day if I had just run into him,\u201d she explained. \u201cBut, you know, he knows \u2013 he knows how closely Andy and I work together. He knows we socially got lunches and got drinks. It was fine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe knows the nature of my work and the way the relationships \u2013 I\u2019ve shared desks with the CEOs I\u2019ve worked with,\u201d Cabot emphasized. \u201cLike, it\u2019s just a very close [relationship], and so it didn\u2019t matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

During\u00a0Coldplay\u2019s performance<\/a>\u00a0on July 16, Byron appeared on the Kiss Cam with his arms wrapped around a woman, who was later identified as Cabot. The two were shown during Martin\u2019s \u201cThe Jumbotron Song,\u201d where the singer improvises lyrics about the couples shown to the crowd.<\/p>\n

Cabot claims her bond with then-CEO Andy Byron stemmed from a high-intensity work culture, not an affair. The Oprah Podcast<\/p>\n

Cabot immediately covered her face and turned away from the camera, while a stunned Byron ducked down and exited the frame. Martin then joked that, \u201cEither they\u2019re having an affair or they\u2019re just very shy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The moment ignited speculation of infidelity across social media as video of the exchange went viral. At the time, she was separated from her husband and Byron had claimed he was also separated. Cabot has since filed for divorce.<\/p>\n

\u201cAstronomer is<\/a> committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability,\u201d the company shared in a statement days later. \u201cThe Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter, and we will have additional details to share very shortly.\u201d<\/p>\n

The viral Kiss Cam led to Byron\u2019s resignation, Cabot\u2019s exit, and even a jab from Gwyneth Paltrow.<\/p>\n

On July 20, Astronomer informed its social media followers that Byron had resigned from the company. Cabot later resigned<\/a> from her role as chief people officer at Astronomer, a week after the video of her cuddling up with Byron went viral.<\/p>\n
