Springville golf course closed after high winds uproot trees<\/a><\/p>\nHortman said he has lived in the area for decades and has never seen a storm like this impact the course.<\/p>\n
” I’ve been here for 40 years, so I haven’t seen one like this ever.”<\/p>\n
Craig Norman, the golf professional at Hobble Creek Golf Course, said debris from fallen trees is spread across large sections of the fairways.<\/p>\n
“I mean, it’s just there’s a mess everywhere,\u201d Norman said.<\/p>\n
Norman said clearing branches and debris could take several days.<\/p>\n
“When you look at the fairway, and it’s basically 100% covered in debris that’s got to be cleaned up,” Norman said.<\/p>\n
Although the golf course is owned by the city, Norman said the repairs will not come from taxpayer dollars.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt’ll come out of the funds that we accumulate,” Norman said.<\/p>\n
The course operates through an enterprise fund, meaning it runs like its own business using revenue generated by the golf course.<\/p>\n
Norman said the closure could also mean lost revenue depending on the weather and demand.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday it’s cold and windy. We probably we might lose a couple thousand dollars. If it was 80 degrees like it’s supposed to be on Thursday and we might lose $10,000,” Norman said.<\/p>\n
At this point, the staff says it is too early to estimate the total cost of cleanup and repairs.<\/p>\n
“I have no idea how to project that now,” Norman said.<\/p>\n
Despite the damage, neighbors and golfers say the course remains a beloved destination in the canyon.<\/p>\n
Officials say they hope to reopen the course by the end of the week, but that will depend on how quickly crews can clear debris from the greens.<\/p>\n
