\n\t\u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d has launched a new short-form series on Peacock and YouTube titled \u201cThe Rundown.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tIn each episode, an \u201cSNL\u201d alum \u2014 Dana Carvey, Mikey Day, Chloe Fineman, Bowen Yang and Questlove\u00a0are early guests \u2014 will select a favorite segment from the show\u2019s history and add it to Lorne Michaels\u2019 famous \u201cRundown\u201d board, building an all-star episode over time. In the first episode, Colin Jost<\/a> breaks down the time-crunched complexities of writing a cold open, and he puts a favorite on the board \u2014 Amy Poehler and Tina Fey\u2019s \u201cKatie Couric Interviews Sarah Palin.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIt\u2019s nostalgic for me because it was early on for me as a writer,\u201d Jost said of the sketch. \u201cIt was just a great combination of Seth [Meyers] and Tina and Amy together. You got to see them playing off each other, and I think they\u2019re two of the best to ever do it.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tHe said the cold open \u201cholds up in the whole history of the show as one of the best.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tJost joined \u201cSNL\u201d as a writer in 2005 and estimated that he has probably written 100 cold opens. (Recently, he has starred in a lot of them too, as the beer-chugging Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.)<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI almost can\u2019t believe that I\u2019ve gotten to write so many of them,\u201d Jost said. \u201cMany I\u2019ve blocked out, but some I am actually proud of \u2014 shockingly. I\u2019m not going to rewatch them! That would ruin it.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tJost also discussed the Brett Kavanaugh hearing sketch from 2018, which starred Matt Damon as the Supreme Court Justice. Jost said the cold open came together in less than 24 hours: they wrote it Friday night, convinced Damon to fly overnight from San Francisco to New York and broadcast it live on air on Saturday night.<\/p>\n \n\tEpisodes of \u201cThe Rundown\u201d will air on Wednesdays of \u201cSNL\u201d hiatus weeks through mid-June.
