For the first time since the start of the season<\/a>, I\u2019m updating my ranking of the best golfers in the world. There have been a few additions and deletions since the last iteration. With the Masters just around the corner, here\u2019s how I view the top golfers in the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"\"A Few Notes<\/p>\n

We dive deeper into this on the latest episode of the Fried Egg Golf Podcast<\/a>, but one of my biggest takeaways from the Players Championship is that, for the first time in years, I\u2019m considering that Scottie Scheffler<\/a> may go through a downturn. I\u2019m not suggesting that it is the most likely outcome, but for the first time in years, it feels plausible that he won\u2019t be the best player in the world 12 months from now. Over his last three tournaments, Scheffler is losing nearly a quarter of a stroke per round with his irons, historically a reliable strength. After a streak of 18 consecutive top-10 finishes, he has now finished outside the top 10 in three straight events. Of course, it\u2019s possible he\u2019ll win two majors this year and make skepticism look foolish. But for the first time in a while, I\u2019m open to the idea that someone could overtake him as the world No. 1.<\/p>\n

As someone who\u2019s been preaching since 2022 that Cameron Young<\/a> is a top-five caliber player in the world, I\u2019m going to take a victory lap on that one. I fully believe that Cam is a top-five player right now. Looking back at the start of his career, it\u2019s kind of insane that he finished one shot out of a playoff in two major championships in his first year on the PGA Tour. And that was back when he didn\u2019t know how to putt! Now that he\u2019s developed into a legitimately great putter, major championship wins are the next boxes for Cam to check.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The following players have the most top-10 finishes in major championships since 2022, Young\u2019s first year on Tour:\u00a0<\/p>\n

Outside of Scheffler and Rory McIlroy<\/a>, Young\u2019s chances are as high as anybody\u2019s to win the 2026 Masters.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I know some of you will take issue with where I\u2019ve tiered Bryson DeChambeau<\/a> and think he should be higher. He\u2019s in the correct spot. Everybody above him is better.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I\u2019m putting Brooks Koepka<\/a> in \u201cIt Could Happen\u201d territory. I really don\u2019t like Koepka\u2019s chances of winning a major championship this year, but there\u2019s nobody I\u2019ve been more wrong about in the past than Koepka. He\u2019s ranked third on Tour right now in Strokes Gained: Approach<\/a>, creeping into the area of being taken seriously.
