Located on the corner of West Washington Street and across from Daley Plaza, the historic landmark dates back to 1913 and currently serves as an office building with a 23 percent occupancy rate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Burnham-Center-04-1024x677.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"677\" class=\"size-large wp-image-88969\"  \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Site context map of Burnham Center via Google Maps<\/p>\n<p>Originally named the Conway Building, it was the final design of famed architect Daniel Burnham before his death. The name itself came from the hometown of Marshall Field, whose estate funded its construction at his request to invest $83 million in Chicago real estate. These investments also included <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagoyimby.com\/2025\/09\/office-to-residential-conversion-of-pittsfield-building-approved-by-plan-commission.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Pittsfield<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagoyimby.com\/2025\/11\/funds-approved-for-residential-conversion-of-field-building-in-the-loop.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Field Building<\/a>, both of which are undergoing their own conversions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Burnham-Center-02-1024x680.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"680\" class=\"size-large wp-image-88971\"  \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">View of Burnham Center via Golub &amp; Company<\/p>\n<p>The Beaux-Arts structure rises 12 stories and features a large central atrium designed for ventilation and natural light. This will be beneficial for the conversion, which is being led by developers Igor Gabal and Mike Reschke, who have worked on various other projects across downtown, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagoyimby.com\/2026\/03\/commercial-leasing-begins-for-thompson-center-redevelopment.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Thompson Center<\/a>. While few additional details have been released, the project will join several other nearby hotel proposals.
