\n\tDisney has dated the 50th anniversary rerelease of Star Wars<\/a> for April 30, 2027. No other news was made available as to whether it will reverse engineer George Lucas\u2019 1997 edits and additions (the Han Solo vs. Greedo who shoots first blah blah) or keep that 20th anniversary print intact.<\/p>\n

\n\tRecently, the British Film Institute screened the original 1977 print which it noted on its site that the pic\u2019s color \u201cis gloriously unfaded.\u201d That print was also \u201cone of the precious handful of dye transfer IB Technicolor prints produced uniquely for the first British release.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tStar Wars: Episode IV \u2013 A New Hope counts a lifetime box office cume of $461 million domestic, $775.3M global. It\u2019s the movie that started it all, a multibillion-dollar-grossing space opera franchise spanning films, streaming series and merchandise.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 1997 rerelease was lucrative, calling on then-DVD audiences to rewatch the classic for the first time in a long time on the big screen; that edition along grossed $138.2M domestic, $160M global. The reissue also served as a tee-off for Episodes I-III, which Lucas was prepping at the time.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlso on Friday, Disney put an October 16, 2026 release date on Imagine Entertainment\u2019s Whalefall<\/a> from filmmaker Brian Duffield, who is also co-writing. It\u2019s billed as The Martian meets 127 Hours in an adaptation of the Daniel Kraus novel about a scuba diver in search of his deceased father\u2019s remains. The diver gets swallowed by an 80-foot, 60-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out. After giving up on life,\u00a0the\u00a0man is surprised to find a reason to live in\u00a0the\u00a0most dangerous and unlikely of places.<\/p>\n

\n\tDeadline first told you about the project<\/a> that stars Austin Abrams, Josh Brolin, Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy and Emily Rudd.<\/p>\n
