The U.S. Currency sessions will be hosted on August 26 and August 28 in Griffin Studios, located at the company\u2019s Costa Mesa, California Headquarters, as well as online at StacksBowers.com<\/a>. The Summer Global Showcase will also feature the firm\u2019s inaugural U.S. Currency Rarities Night<\/a> session on the afternoon of August 28.<\/p>\n

Part I (Session 2)<\/a> offers items from Colonial and Continental pieces to Fractional Currency with everything in between. This wide selection ranges from extremely rare issued Obsoletes to Confederate States of America notes that include an impressive mid-grade T-2 $500 from the provisional capital in Montgomery before its move to Richmond in May 1861 (lot 20161<\/a>) and a T-47 (XX-3) of the rarely seen \u201cCheckered Shield\u201d variety which is seldom encountered (lot 20184<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Part II (Session 3)<\/a> focuses exclusively on National Bank Notes and features Part IV of the Eric Agnew Collection, as well as a number of new discoveries and many desirable notes from Maine (lot 21159<\/a>) to Alaska (lot 21004<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Part IV of the Eric Agnew Collection<\/a> includes highlights from well-known locales such as Los Angeles and San Francisco, as well as notes from small obscure lumbering communities in Northern California. Standouts include a $10 Plain Back issued by the First National Bank of Coalinga (Charter# 9323 \u2013 lot 21014<\/a>) and an uncut sheet of Type 2 $5s from the First National Bank of Weed (Charter# 9873 \u2013 lot 21105<\/a>). A number of National Gold Bank Notes will be offered, including a $10 issued by the First National Gold Bank of Santa Barbara (Charter# 2104 \u2013 lot 21088<\/a>), a rare offering due to the Very Fine 20 grade assigned by PMG. Lot 21095<\/a> presents one of the most interesting pieces from the overall Eric Agnew Collection, an 1882 $5 Brown Back issued by the short-lived Stockton National Bank (Charter# 2794) during the 1880s. This institution is directly linked to a colorful personality who came to California during the Gold Rush and offers the chance to acquire a charter that has never been offered at auction.<\/p>\n

A number of incredible newly discovered National Bank Notes will be offered, including examples from the dusty expanses of Arizona (lot 21006<\/a>), the plains of South Dakota (lot 21229<\/a>), and a discovery note that represents a combination not seen at auction since 2003 (lot 21235<\/a>). This last highlight, issued by the First National Bank of Bonham (Charter# 3094)<\/a>, represents a type and denomination which records barely more than 130 pieces from the entire United States, with that figure heavily skewed toward banks in Iowa, Chicago, and St. Louis. It is only the fifth Series of 1902 Red Seal $100 from Texas in the National Bank Note Census and the first to be offered since 2003 when the impaired example issued by the First National Bank of Granbury (Charter# 3727) was offered. It is one of a small number at this grade level.<\/p>\n

Part III (Session 6)<\/a> features an assortment of small and large-size type notes alongside a handful of errors. This session has much to offer, from iconic designs such as those introduced with the Series of 1896 to pieces that will appeal to collectors who emphasize quality or the challenge of building a set by signature combination or block,<\/p>\n
