Kelsey Plum is venturing into a new space: AI.<\/p>\n
The WNBA<\/a> star has enthralled fans en route to winning two championships and establishing herself as one of the league’s biggest stars. Because of her profile, it could be difficult to meet with all the fans, which is why Plum<\/a> teamed up with AI communications company Talk2Me to create an AI version of herself.<\/p>\n In a video she posted on her personal Instagram page, Plum introduced a “twin,” which gives fans the opportunity to interact and have conversations with. The range is endless,\u201d Plum said in a statement, according to Fast Company<\/a>. She then added a warning, stating: “It\u2019s where we are in society, and I think you are either gonna get with it or get lost.\u201d<\/p>\n The 31-year-old also claimed that having an AI version of herself allows fans to interact with her who might not have had the opportunity to do so when they attend her games. What’s more, Plum believes that having an AI twin allows fans to have a more intimate conversation with her.<\/p>\n \u201cIn the arena, I can only talk to so many people, so many fans at one time, and so I think the next best thing would then be to log on and have a one-on-one conversation,\u201d the WNBA star continued.<\/p>\n Kelsey Plum introduced her new AI ‘twin’ in a video posted to social media(Image: Instagram: @kelseyplum10)<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s just a great opportunity to reach more people and obviously, too, we\u2019re gonna be able to see what people are asking and wanna see, and we\u2019ll be able to grow from there.\u201d And while Plum claims her newest venture will be a positive for fans, her supporters on social media had a markedly different tone.<\/p>\n “i\u2019m a new phantom fan and this is so disappointing! your authenticity and talent is what makes you a fantastic player,” a fan wrote in response. “AI can\u2019t replicate that. the message you\u2019re sending to young fans is that their personhood can be replaced by a machine. it\u2019s a dangerous message! don\u2019t do it kelsey!”<\/p>\n Another added: “Not sure what to say here. You\u2019re an amazing player and athlete. You don\u2019t need a twin. The fans like you for who YOU are and what you do. AI ain\u2019t it. Saying things like \u201cyou either get with it or get lost\u201d is terrible and not truthful in any way.
