\n\tAfter exiting social media<\/a> in 2024, Barry Keoghan<\/a> recently got candid about the toll online abuse has taken on his career.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Oscar nominee, who has been filming his part of the Sam Mendes\u2019 Beatles cinematic event as Ringo Starr, said social media \u201chate\u201d about his looks is \u201cbecoming a problem\u201d for his desire to take onscreen roles, making him \u201cshy away\u201d from the public eye.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve been blessed that I\u2019ve got an incredible fan base, and people are so lovely out there,\u201d he prefaced on SiriusXM\u2019s Hits 1<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s really nice when you do Q&As and you talk to people and you can be there with them and answer their questions and give them all of you. And that is the good side of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tKeoghan continued, \u201cBut there\u2019s also a nasty side of it. And I\u2019ve removed myself from online, but I\u2019m still a curious human being that wants to go on. And if I attend an event or if I go somewhere, you want to see how it was received. And it\u2019s not nice, you know?<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of hate online. There\u2019s a lot of abuse of how I look, and it\u2019s kind of past the point of \u2014 you know, \u2018Everyone goes through that.\u2019 And everyone does, but it\u2019s made me shy away. It\u2019s made me really go inside myself, not want to attend places, not want to go outside. And I say this being absolute pure and honest to you. It\u2019s becoming a problem,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Saltburn star said he\u2019s been \u201chiding away\u201d over the abuse. \u201cI actually don\u2019t go to places because of these things,\u201d Keoghan noted.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBut when that starts leaking into your art, it becomes a problem, because then you don\u2019t want to even be on screen anymore,\u201d he said, adding: \u201cIt is disappointing for the fans, but it\u2019s also disappointing that my little boy has to read all of this stuff when he gets older.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWith Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man debuting this weekend on Netflix, Keoghan has recently been filming The Beatles \u2014 A Four-Film Cinematic Event, along with Harris Dickinson, Paul Mescal and Joseph Quinn.
