\n If you only watched Fox News over the weekend, you didn\u2019t hear about President Donald Trump\u2019s widely condemned reaction<\/a> to Robert Mueller\u2019s death<\/a>.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cRobert Mueller just died,\u201d Trump posted to Truth Social shortly after the news of the former FBI director\u2019s death became public on Saturday afternoon. \u201cGood, I\u2019m glad he\u2019s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Since then, Fox News has mentioned Mueller\u2019s death at least six times on air without ever quoting Trump\u2019s celebration or all the outrage the post provoked, according to TV transcript database searches.\n <\/p>\n

\n Most of Fox\u2019s mentions of Mueller\u2019s death were short news updates, not full-fledged discussions. But that, too, was a curious choice for a network whose biggest stars spent years villainizing Mueller for leading the Russia probe during Trump\u2019s first term.\n <\/p>\n

\n One of the only extended conversations about Mueller was on Trey Gowdy\u2019s Sunday evening show, in which he and Rep. Jim Jordan discussed \u201cthe political origins of the Russia collusion hoax.\u201d Trump\u2019s reaction did not come up.\n <\/p>\n

\n Fox\u2019s omission was a window into how the pro-Trump network selectively amplifies or sidesteps his rhetoric depending on the moment.\n <\/p>\n

\n When its choice about Mueller gained attention on social media, Trump critics surmised that Fox\u2019s producers were implicitly admitting the president\u2019s comment was appalling by choosing to ignore it altogether.\n <\/p>\n

\n Fox was certainly aware of the controversy, since its website featured a story about Mueller\u2019s death that quoted Trump at the very top.\n <\/p>\n

\n But on TV, \u201cI\u2019m glad he\u2019s dead\u201d was not deemed newsworthy at all.\n <\/p>\n

\n Instead of quoting the current president, who did not express any condolences, Sunday morning\u2019s \u201cFox & Friends\u201d quoted former president George W. Bush, who nominated Mueller to be FBI director, praising Mueller\u2019s service to the country.\n <\/p>\n

\n A Fox News spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment Sunday night about the coverage choices.\n <\/p>\n

\n On other networks, Trump\u2019s decision to celebrate Mueller\u2019s death sparked panel discussions and vocal criticism.\n <\/p>\n

\n Trump\u2019s comments \u201cshould be shocking for anyone to say, let alone a president. But it\u2019s not\u2026 Trump\u2019s refusal to show any grace to perceived foes, even after death, is a feature, not a bug. Not a surprise, but that doesn\u2019t make it okay,\u201d CNN anchor Dana Bash said on Sunday\u2019s \u201cState of the Union.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n One of Fox\u2019s longest-serving analysts, former anchorman Brit Hume, was among those who chose to speak out about it \u2014 in a post on X.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThis is the kind of stuff Trump does that makes people not just oppose him but hate him,\u201d Hume wrote. \u201cThere was no need to say anything.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n This was far from the first time Fox News has turned a blind eye to particularly difficult-to-defend conduct by Trump.\n <\/p>\n

\n Last December, when another one of Trump\u2019s political foes, Rob Reiner, was brutally murdered, Trump made disparaging remarks about the star director, calling him \u201cderanged\u201d and almost celebrating his death. Fox hosts went out of their way to avoid directly mentioning Trump\u2019s comments.\n <\/p>\n

\n And months before that, the network all but ignored a scoop by the Wall Street Journal, its corporate sibling, about a scandalous birthday note<\/a> to Jeffrey Epstein bearing Trump\u2019s name.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cFox News turns blind eye to latest Epstein bombshell \u2014 even when talking to man in charge of investigation,\u201d read a headline<\/a> at the time from The Independent\u2019s Justin Baragona.\n <\/p>\n

\n Fox host Sean Hannity recently pointed to Trump insulting Reiner when he was asked on \u201cThe Katie Miller Podcast\u201d about times when he has disagreed with the president.\n <\/p>\n

\n Hannity said he sometimes thinks, \u201cDid you have to say that?
