\n\tDuring his opening monologue on tonight\u2019s installment of Last Week Tonight<\/a>, John Oliver<\/a> addressed the spiraling claims by Donald Trump<\/a>\u2018s administration regarding the Iran War<\/a>, which has continued to drag on despite assurances it would entail a decisive military operation last month.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter cuing a video of U.S. Secretary of Defense\/War Pete Hegseth<\/a>\u2018s recent address to the American public<\/a>, in which he defended \u201cOperation Epic Fury,\u201d the late-night host quipped: \u201c\u2018Epic Fury is different?\u2019 Maybe. It\u2019s definitely the stupidest name I\u2019ve ever heard. It sounds like a VHS tape Hegseth put out of himself doing karate in a garage. It sounds like the name of an energy drink marketed to divorced monster truck fans containing so much caffeine it makes you shit your pants while having a heart attack. It doesn\u2019t exactly convey care and precision.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPrior to the weekend, Trump also reiterated that he believes the U.S. has decisively won the war.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOh, well, that\u2019s great news, but here\u2019s the problem with that: He already declared we\u2019d won the war 11 days ago, and I don\u2019t know if you\u2019ve noticed, but it has seemed to continue since then,\u201d Oliver said. \u201cAnd I\u2019ve gotta say, for all this administration\u2019s disdain for \u2018cable news spin,\u2019 and its insistence that people \u2018report the reality,\u2019 they are stretching the truth to breaking point here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued, \u201cBecause even as Trump\u2019s claiming that we\u2019ve won, the Pentagon\u2019s requesting $200 billion in extra funding<\/a> for this operation is sure suggesting it\u2019ll be going on for a while. He\u2019s also claimed we\u2019ve destroyed \u2018100% of Iran\u2019s military capability,\u2019<\/a> which is a little hard to believe, given they\u2019re still somehow managing to strike multiple other countries in the region. And he claimed twice this week that a former president endorsed his decision<\/a> to go to war, something they\u2019ve all since denied. The lies are getting pretty flagrant here, even by this president\u2019s standards, and inevitably, people are noticing.\u201d<\/p>\n
