That was one stroke better than American David Lipsky to claim the $1.6 million prize.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Fitzpatrick with wife Katherine. Looking forward to keeping the momentum going!\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DWNRWL3EVUc\/?img_index=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he exclaimed<\/a> on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>It was only a week ago that Fitzpatrick was on the outside of the victor\u2019s circle <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/15\/sports\/westchesters-cameron-young-wins-players-championship\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">when Young captured the $4.5 million Players Championship prize<\/a> in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old American finished the tournament at 13-under, putting him one stroke ahead of Fitzpatrick.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Fitzpatrick won the Valspar Championship in March 2026. AP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo lose it right at the death is always difficult to take,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pgatour.com\/article\/news\/daily-wrapup\/2026\/03\/22\/valspar-championship-copperhead-course-innisbrook-resort-round-4-Matt-Fitzpatrick-sungjae-im-david-lipsky-brooks-koepka\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Fitzpatrick said<\/a>, according to the PGA Tour\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the crushing finish at the Players, Fitzpatrick \u2014 who is currently ranked sixth in the world \u2014 continued to build off that confidence for his first PGA Tour triumph since the RBC Heritage in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe big thing was I felt I was playing well,\u201d he said. \u201cI wanted to continue that and felt like I had the confidence in myself to do so. To do that for four rounds was special this week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Matt Fitzpatrick fell short in the Players Championship in March 2026.
