LSU golf course(WAFB)<\/p>\nBATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – LSU announced it will close its golf course to the public on May 9, with the course shutting down permanently June 30.<\/p>\n
The university gave no reason why it is shutting the course down in its initial announcement.<\/p>\n
Sean Hanly heads to the LSU Golf Course for a daily dose of relaxation whenever he has the time. But today, Hanly discovered his \u201cmedicine\u201d was in short supply.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish it was sticking around but I guess it\u2019s sad to see it\u2019s going,\u201d Hanly said.<\/p>\n
Course generated revenue but expenses outweighed income<\/p>\n
According to a university spokesperson, the 18-hole course had 15,012 rounds played in fiscal year 2025, generating $554,748 in revenue. But expenses totaled $582,588.<\/p>\n
Wear and tear are noticeable on several areas of the property. An employee said the course never quite had the funding to keep up with how heavily it was used.<\/p>\n
LSU sophomore Nathan Hays says he\u2019ll miss the course just down the road from where he lives and attends school.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love just coming out here and hitting some balls after class,\u201d Hays said.<\/p>\n
Golfers concerned about overcrowding at other courses<\/p>\n
Hays says the closure could cause overcrowding at surrounding courses.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith losing this course, it\u2019ll definitely become way more packed. Even getting a tee time now, if it\u2019s a Saturday or Sunday or Friday, like you don\u2019t get it two weeks in advance that Santa Maria or Beaver, you\u2019re probably going to have to wait longer,\u201d Hays said. \u201cIt\u2019s honestly just a shame to think about the potential it had and now it\u2019s getting shut down.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hanly said the course meant a lot to him.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt meant a lot to me, and you know golf is a meaningful game to a lot of people. Rest in peace LSU golf course,\u201d Hanly said.<\/p>\n
