Sandra H\u00fcller is currently delighting viewers as part of the cast in the No. 1 movie in America, \u201cProject Hail Mary.\u201d<\/a> While star Ryan Gosling (and the universe\u2019s biggest bro, Rocky) are getting most of the plaudits, H\u00fcller’s performance as head of a world-saving scientific project isn\u2019t to be overlooked. But to anybody who saw \u201cAnatomy of a Fall\u201d a couple of years back, it\u2019s no surprise to see the German actress starring in a fantastic flick.<\/p>\n

The good news is that \u201cAnatomy of a Fall\u201d just arrived on Netflix, and it\u2019s a masterful legal thriller movie that scored five Oscar nominations, including an acting nod for H\u00fcller, and won Best Original Screenplay. In the two years since its release, my love for this gripping watch has only increased, and I\u2019m delighted to have an excuse to stream it again now it\u2019s just arrived on the world\u2019s biggest streaming service<\/a> as part of its March 2026 movie slate.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re looking for your next can’t-miss Netflix movie, your search is effectively over. Here\u2019s why \u201cAnatomy of a Fall\u201d is an intelligent thriller that combines excellent performances, sharp writing, and a central mystery that will have you mulling things over long after the credits have rolled.<\/p>\n

Sandra (Sandra H\u00fcller) and Samuel (Samuel Theis) are a married couple living with her visually-impaired young son, Daniel (Milo Machado-Graner), in a picturesque home in the remote French Alps. But their marriage is far from perfect; in fact, it seems pretty rocky.<\/p>\n

When Samuel is found dead in the snow, apparently having fallen from a second-story balcony, investigators have one question: Did Samuel fall to his death, or was he pushed? Sandra is charged with homicide, and as the trial date nears, the couple\u2019s fractured marriage comes to light, with flashbacks revealing a union that was anything but marital bliss.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Daniel is forced to decide which version of events he believes to be true, as his testimony could decide if his mother returns home or will spend the rest of her life in prison.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnatomy of a Fall\u201d offers no easy answers. This isn\u2019t a dramatic thriller where the truth is easy to read, and it\u2019s just about watching investigators slowly reach that same conclusion. Instead, it challenges you to consider the evidence for yourself and decide what you think happened. That\u2019s part of the reason I love it so much; it\u2019s a movie with faith in its viewers’ intelligence.<\/p>\n

With an Oscar-winning screenplay, it should come as little surprise when I say it\u2019s supremely well-scripted. The film\u2019s authenticity emphasizes quieter, character-driven moments, rather than over-the-top melodrama. The back half of the flick might take place in a courtroom, but there are no shocking third-act outbursts or stunning, but extremely illogical, finale twists.<\/p>\n

H\u00fcller leads an all-around stellar cast, and while the actress is phenomenal throughout, there is one flashback where she finds another gear and delivers the movie\u2019s best moment. I have to immediately rewatch this incredible scene anytime I think about \u201cAnatomy of a Fall.\u201d Writer\/director Justine Triet expertly builds the tension between characters across the movie\u2019s runtime, building to a thoughtful ending that leaves you much still to ponder.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m certainly not alone in my high opinion of \u201cAnatomy of a Fall.\u201d On Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, it holds a very impressive 96% score. The site\u2019s critics’ summary reads, \u201cA smart, solidly crafted procedural that’s anchored in family drama, Anatomy of a Fall finds star Sandra H\u00fcller and director\/co-writer Justine Triet operating at peak power.\u201d And viewers are clearly in agreement with critics, rating it an equally strong 91%. This movie is definitely beloved.<\/p>\n

If you missed \u201cAnatomy of a Fall\u201d when it landed in theaters, or when it was making waves during the 2024 awards season, its arrival on Netflix is a chance to right that wrong. Out of everything new on Netflix this week<\/a>, I believe it\u2019s the one movie you need to watch first.<\/p>\n
