Min Woo Lee is back at the site of his PGA Tour breakthrough: the Texas Children\u2019s Houston Open.<\/p>\n
The 27-year-old Australian has yet to miss a cut this season, highlighted by a T2 finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am won by \u200bCollin Morikawa. As the defending champion, Lee hopes the Pebble performance last month is \u200ca sign he could pick up his second win this week.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, Pebble was a very nice week, felt like I put four good rounds together,\u201d Lee said Tuesday. \u201cThat\u2019s all you have to do, you\u2019ve got to put yourself in contention. I feel like I\u2019ve been doing that, just getting a lot familiar with my game, putting \u200cwell and \u200bdoing everything pretty solid. You\u2019ve got to do that to \u2060win and put yourself in that \u2060spot. Yeah, it\u2019s not rocket science, you\u2019ve got to play very good.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lee had two rounds of 65 at Pebble Beach, one of the more famous courses on the PGA Tour. The Houston Open is played at a much different kind of track, Memorial Park Golf \u200bCourse, one of two municipal courses played on the circuit.<\/p>\n
Lee prevailed last year by bombing his drives, something he\u2019s known for, and having little trouble on his approach shots even if he \u2060missed the fairway. He also reflected on how locked-in \u2060he was mentally.<\/p>\n
\u201cSomething about last time I was here, I was very \u200bhead down and just focused on the process and hitting the next shot,\u201d Lee said, \u201cwhich I think \u200bthat\u2019s why it was very, I guess, exhausting because I didn\u2019t \u2014 normally I \u200cwould look around, look at the crowd, but not last year. I was very head down and just kind of did my thing.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe I should do it every week, I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lee said he had to hone in on his approach play after performing poorly in the tour\u2019s signature events \u2060in 2025. After ranking near the bottom of the tour in strokes gained on approach last year, he\u2019s gaining strokes for the season, ranking above-average at 77th.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, you always look back at the week \u2060and think, \u2018That 3-footer that I \u200cmissed could have made a big difference towards the end of the \u2060year,\u2019 or stuff like that,\u201d Lee said. \u201cI mean, yes, that\u2019s something \u200bthat you \u200cget feedback from, but you\u2019ve just got to move on and \u200bdo the best \u2060you can. \u2026<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought that I was good enough to be out here and play, but the Signature Events beat me up last year. I needed to get a lot better and a lot more stable. A lot stronger, too. Yeah, it was just a good period of time after the fall we really had to do something about my game. Yeah, it\u2019s starting to pay off now, which \u200bis great.\u201d<\/p>\n
