{"id":547205,"date":"2026-03-26T22:10:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T22:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/547205\/"},"modified":"2026-03-26T22:10:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T22:10:07","slug":"america-first-in-africa-is-still-undefined","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/547205\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cAmerica First\u201d in Africa is Still Undefined"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rich-text type-serif-body4\">When Nick Checker, the State Department\u2019s Senior Bureau Official for African Affairs, recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/releases\/bureau-of-african-affairs\/2026\/03\/america-first-in-africa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">made a statement<\/a> expounding on what an \u201cAmerica First\u201d agenda means in Africa, he promised \u201cinsight and clarity.\u201d On the positive side of the ledger, he offered an admirably straightforward explanation of a basic proposition that has too often been avoided as if it were in poor taste. The United States\u2019 engagements in Africa, and indeed around the world, are guided by the pursuit of U.S. interests. Our expectation is that interlocuters are similarly motivated by their own interests, and progress is made in areas of overlapping or complementary objectives.
