{"id":54748,"date":"2025-08-02T10:36:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-02T10:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/54748\/"},"modified":"2025-08-02T10:36:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-02T10:36:08","slug":"charlie-woods-son-of-tiger-fades-late-and-misses-out-on-junior-ryder-cup-golf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/54748\/","title":{"rendered":"Charlie Woods, son of Tiger, fades late and misses out on Junior Ryder Cup | Golf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Charlie Woods dropped into a tie for ninth on the final day of the Junior PGA Championship, which took him out of the running for a qualifying spot for the US Junior <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/rydercup\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryder Cup<\/a> team on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">The 16-year-old son of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/tigerwoods\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tiger Woods<\/a> shot back-to-back 66s in the second and third rounds at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind., and was tied for second place entering the final round.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">But he posted a final-round 74 at the Ackerman-Allen course on Friday, with three bogeys and a double bogey over his final 10 holes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">The Junior Ryder Cup will take place 23-25 September at Bethpage Black and Nassau Country Club, just ahead of the senior event between the US and Team Europe that weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">There is also one captain\u2019s pick for the team, although Woods is likely not in line to be selected for it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Lunden Esterline was the runaway winner of the Junior PGA Championship with a final score of 19-under-par 266 (featuring a second-round 62).<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Giuseppe Puebla shot a final-round 64 to rocket into a tie for second at 13 under with Tyler Mawhinney (69). In doing so, Puebla received the other automatic qualifying spot for the Junior Ryder Cup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Esterline, from Andover, Kansas, is a 2027 Auburn commit.
