Three studios are vying for <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/the-comebacker\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-comebacker\" data-tag=\"the-comebacker\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Comebacker<\/a>, a film that will reteam <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/tom-hanks\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tom-hanks\" data-tag=\"tom-hanks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Hanks<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/marielle-heller\/\" id=\"auto-tag_marielle-heller\" data-tag=\"marielle-heller\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marielle Heller<\/a>, who directed Hanks as Mr. Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Based on a short story by Dave Eggers, The Comebacker was scripted by Heller and is called a love letter to baseball. Sony and Focus are in the mix with one other. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHanks plays the pitching coach of a major league hurler whose life is upended when he is hit in the head by a line drive on the mound. His life changes in all kinds of ways. There is no actor set yet to play the pitcher, but it sounds like every young leading man in town will be after this one. Production will begin in October, and the film is being produced by Hanks\u2019 partner <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/gary-goetzman\/\" id=\"auto-tag_gary-goetzman\" data-tag=\"gary-goetzman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gary Goetzman<\/a> at Playtone, and Heller\u2019s producing partner <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/leah-holzer\/\" id=\"auto-tag_leah-holzer\" data-tag=\"leah-holzer\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leah Holzer<\/a> at Defiant By Nature. Only one of the three bidding distributors will come away with the movie, and the other two must remember that there is no crying in baseball. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHanks and Goetzman are just wrapping Greyhound 2 in Australia. Once again, Hanks wrote the script and stars, with Aaron Schneider directing for Apple Original Films.
