{"id":548986,"date":"2026-03-27T19:10:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T19:10:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/548986\/"},"modified":"2026-03-27T19:10:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T19:10:12","slug":"android-17-adds-location-button-and-more-private-approximate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/548986\/","title":{"rendered":"Android 17 adds \u2018location button\u2019 and more private \u2018Approximate\u2019\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t<img width=\"1600\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Android-17-location-cover.jpg\" class=\"skip-lazy wp-post-image\" alt=\"\"  decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Android 17 <a href=\"https:\/\/android-developers.googleblog.com\/2026\/03\/location-privacy.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">features<\/a> a number of location privacy updates, with the latest introduced in <a href=\"https:\/\/9to5google.com\/2026\/03\/26\/android-17-beta-3-everything-new\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"708376\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Beta 3<\/a> being\u00a0the \u201clocation button.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new location button provides \u201csimplified access for one time use,\u201d with Google pointing out how \u201cfinding a nearby shop or tagging a social post\u201d shouldn\u2019t mean apps have \u201cpermanent or background access to a user\u2019s precise location.\u201d This is something industry partners and developers have requested to \u201cbring a simpler, and more private location flow to their users.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, this is a \u201cnew UI element designed to provide a well-lit path for responsible one time precise location.\u201d Access will be available \u201cuntil you close the app.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Once consent is provided, this session based access eliminates repeated prompts for location dependent features. This benefits developers by creating a smoother experience for their users and providing high confidence in user intent, as access is explicitly requested at the moment of action.<\/p>\n<p>Developers will be able to customize the button\u2019s background and icon color scheme, outline style, and size and shape.
