\n\tUniversal Pictures\u2019 The Mummy<\/a> is reuniting the family.<\/p>\n

\n\tJohn Hannah, who appeared in the previous Mummy movies made at the turn of the century, is reuniting with Brendan Fraser<\/a> and Rachel Weisz for the latest installment of the horror-adventure franchise.<\/p>\n

\n\tMatt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of film collective Radio Silence, who together revitalized the Scream franchise with 2022\u2019s\u00a0Scream and 2023\u2019s\u00a0Scream VI\u00a0and are behind the\u00a0Ready or Not\u00a0films, are helming the feature, which has a script by David Coggeshall\u00a0(The Family Plan,\u00a0Orphan: First Kill).<\/p>\n

\n\tPlot details are being kept in the sarcophagus at this stage. The original movie, released in 1999, starred Fraser as treasure hunter who travels to Egypt in the 1920s with a spunky librarian, played by Weisz, only to accidentally awaken a supernaturally powerful high priest.<\/p>\n

\n\tHannah played the less-then-trustworthy brother of the librarian, a thief who, over the course of the original movies made, is always on the make, gaining and losing spoils, and ends each adventure with a little something in his pocket, even as ancient cities and treasures crumble around him and his friends. Hannah appeared in all three of the movies along with Fraser (Weisz stuck around only for the first two).<\/p>\n

\n\tUniversal will release the next feature on\u00a0May 19, 2028. According to sources, the project is set to begin shooting in the fall in London and Morocco.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs a little amuse-bouche, Universal will rerelease 2001\u2019s The Mummy Returns\u00a0in theaters nationwide on March 27, 2026, to mark that film\u2019s 25th\u00a0anniversary.<\/p>\n

\n\tSean Daniel, who produced the original movies with his late partner James Jacks, is back as producer. Joining him are frequent Radio Silence collaborators William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein, who will produce via their Project X Entertainment banner. Project X was involved in Radio Silence movies such as Abigail and the Scream movies. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tFraser and Hivemind\u2019s Jason F. Brown are executive produce the film.<\/p>\n

\n\tHannah is a veteran British actor who stole scenes in 1990s classic Four Weddings and a Funeral and had a key role in Starz\u2019 Spartacus series. He also appeared in Marvel\u2019s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Last of Us and Black Mirror.<\/p>\n
