{"id":549989,"date":"2026-03-28T07:24:14","date_gmt":"2026-03-28T07:24:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/549989\/"},"modified":"2026-03-28T07:24:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-28T07:24:14","slug":"short-term-fund-rapidly-set-up-after-gambling-levy-raises-120m-in-first-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/549989\/","title":{"rendered":"Short-term fund \u2018rapidly\u2019 set up after gambling levy raises \u00a3120m in first year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The government has invited charities to bid to a short-term fund launched after its levy on gambling firms raised just under \u00a3120m in its first year.<\/p>\n<p>The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has \u201crapidly established\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/gambling-levy-transition-fund\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Gambling Levy Transition Fund<\/a> (GLTF) while a new permanent funding arrangement is set up.<\/p>\n<p>Before the levy was introduced in April last year, some charities providing gambling harm prevention and treatment services in England were voluntarily funded by the industry.<\/p>\n<p>In future, the government intends to allocate 20% of money raised through the new levy on operators to research, 30% to prevention and 50% to treatment of gambling-related harms.<\/p>\n<p>However, DCMS said tight time frames for commissioning processes and decisions created the risk of a funding gap, which may have put vulnerable beneficiaries of organisations previously funded under the voluntary system at risk.<\/p>\n<p>It has therefore launched the GLTF to offer grants funding for a period of three months, starting from 1 April 2026, to \u201censure that there is no break or gap in provision during this period of transition\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>To be eligible, charities must have been using funding from the industry-funded voluntary system between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>A maximum of three-months-worth of grants will be offered to charities based on how much they received per year under the voluntary system arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>Charities must also have unsuccessfully bid for funding from the gambling levy via one of the government\u2019s relevant treatment and prevention funds.<\/p>\n<p>The GLTF application deadline is 30 April.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The government has invited charities to bid to a short-term fund launched after its levy on gambling firms&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":549990,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[60],"tags":[97,259,260],"class_list":["post-549989","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-mental-health","tag-health","tag-mental-health","tag-mentalhealth"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/549989","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=549989"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/549989\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/549990"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=549989"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=549989"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=549989"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
