BUTLER, Pa. \u2014 A giant bear was spotted wandering around a yard by a Butler County man\u2019s doorbell camera.<\/p>\n
\u201cHoly crud, is that big,\u201d said Kevin Cumbridge.<\/p>\n
That was his first reaction when he first saw the video of a massive black bear right by his front porch at 2:10 a.m. Friday. <\/p>\n
\u201cThat thing is huge,\u201d Cumblidge said. \u201cI\u2019m thinking, \u2018boy I\u2019m sure glad I wasn\u2019t out there to discover it on my own,\u2019 and the fact that it\u2019s so quiet? This all happened around 2:11 in the morning, and [I] never heard a thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
He believes the bear came through the neighborhood, likely through an open area in his yard. He has a camera on the back of his house, but the bear never went that way.<\/p>\n
He was surprised to see the bear since this is a residential area, and less than a minute\u2019s drive from several shopping centers and the highway.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe see raccoons, or deer, or maybe a turkey, but that\u2019s about it,\u201d Cumblidge said. \u201cThere\u2019s enough population that I wouldn\u2019t expect to see a bear here.\u201d<\/p>\n
He wanted to share his story with Channel 11\u2019s Andrew Havranek to alert people in the area that the bear is roaming the neighborhood.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy neighbors hang out on the porch a lot, and then all of the sudden, there\u2019s a bear in your face,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
People in this area of Butler may have more reason to be afraid of bears.<\/p>\n
Two years ago this month, Channel 11 told you when Lee Ann Galante and her dog were attacked by a bear in her yard on Bellefield Drive \u2014 less than a 10-minute drive from Cumblidge\u2019s house. They both survived, and the bear was captured and euthanized.<\/p>\n
Back at Cumblidge\u2019s house, he\u2019s got a sign on his front porch that says \u201cstrays welcome.\u201d But that\u2019s not the case for this bear.<\/p>\n
He took down his bird feeder in hopes it wouldn\u2019t return.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope not, but that\u2019s not, I mean, no telling what a bear is going to do,\u201d Cumblidge said. \u201cIf it wants to go somewhere, it pretty much does what it wants.\u201d <\/p>\n
