The thinking around the NBA seems to be that if LeBron James leaves the Los Angeles Lakers<\/a> and doesn’t retire this summer, he will head back to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a third stint with them. But there has been another team lurking as at least a remote possibility for the future Hall of Famer.<\/p>\n

The Golden State Warriors<\/a> have been interested in landing James over the last couple of years and have made multiple attempts to trade for him. There have been conflicting reports about whether they’re an actual threat to sign him this offseason. One report indicated that Draymond Green and Stephen Curry will “heavily recruit”<\/a> the 41-year-old, but another report<\/a> indicated that<\/a> James isn’t interested in heading to the Bay.<\/p>\n

However, a new Substack post<\/a> from NBA insider Marc Stein called the Warriors “one of the few credible destinations” for James.<\/p>\n

“The Warriors are likewise routinely described by rival teams as one of the few credible destinations for LeBron James\u2019 24th NBA campaign if James and the Lakers indeed part ways after eight seasons together,” Stein wrote. “‘It has some legs,’ one league source of the LeBron link to the Warriors.”<\/p>\n

The Warriors may have to pull off a sign-and-trade to obtain James if he indeed wants to play for them next season. However, with the Lakers’ recent success, which includes 14 wins in their last 16 games, perhaps the chances of him remaining in a Purple and Gold jersey next season are increasing.<\/p>\n

He has been adapting well to his new, reduced role as the team’s third scoring option, and he’s currently averaging 20.9 points on 51.2% field-goal shooting, six rebounds and 6.9 assists a game this season.<\/p>\n
