Arsenio Hall\u2019s dreams of having a threesome were thwarted by Eddie Murphy \u2014\u00a0after the actor got into a physical altercation on the set of \u201cComing to America.\u201d<\/p>\n
In \u201cArsenio: A Memoir,\u201d<\/a> the former talk-show host, now 70, writes that while shooting the 1988 comedy, he was gifted some \u201coutrageous New York weed\u201d and invited two women for dinner and a private party at his Waldorf Astoria suite.<\/p>\n \u201cI have long dreamed of having a m\u00e9nage-\u00e0-trois,\u201d he writes. \u201cCall it high on my bucket list, maybe in the top three, and tonight\u2019s the night. Getty Images for ABA<\/p>\n Hall says his dates were \u201cmaking out on the couch and I\u2019m getting turned on,\u201d when the phone rang.<\/p>\n He reluctantly answered it to find Paramount Pictures president Ned Tanen on the other end, bellowing that \u201cComing to America\u201d was off.<\/p>\n Tanen furiously relayed that Murphy had \u201cchoked\u201d the movie\u2019s director, John Landis, \u201con Queens Boulevard, in front of an entire crowd,\u201d leading him to \u201cf\u2013king quit.\u201d<\/p>\n Murphy had \u201cchoked\u201d the movie\u2019s director, John Landis, on set, prompting Landis to quit. \u00a9Paramount\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n Hall says that he noticed tension on set between Murphy and Landis, who later worked together on \u201cBeverly Hills Cop III.\u201d \u00a9Paramount\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n Hall had noticed \u201can uncomfortable vibe between\u201d Murphy and Landis, calling the dynamic between them \u201cfraught.\u201d The two had previously worked together on 1983\u2019s \u201cTrading Places.\u201d<\/p>\n Eager to save the day, he called off his party plans and immediately took a limo to Murphy\u2019s Englewood, NJ estate, Bubble Hill. Although Murphy typically never imbibed, he decided the time was right.<\/p>\n The two began downing screwdrivers and Hall pulled out his bag of weed \u2014 something else Murphy never did.
