It is safe to say the Viktor Arvidsson trade was a smashing success. On July 1, 2025, the Boston Bruins acquired the peppery right wing from the Edmonton Oilers. The cost: a 2027 fifth-round pick.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The sum is laughable considering some of what returned: three assists in Sunday\u2019s come-from-behind 4-3 shootout win<\/a> over the Columbus Blue Jackets, a top-five placement<\/a> in five-on-five scoring and boldfaced presence on the Bruins\u2019 second line.<\/p>\n It is not the only one-sided acquisition lately for general manager Don Sweeney.<\/p>\n Sweeney did not execute any major deals at the trade deadline. Perhaps it\u2019s because his counterparts didn\u2019t want to get taken to the cleaners. Go down the list of trades Sweeney has made involving players on the current roster. There\u2019s not one dud.<\/p>\n Pavel Zacha from the New Jersey Devils for Erik Haula<\/p>\n Zacha is on fire. The Bruins\u2019 No. 2 center has a career-high 28 goals. Two of them were against Columbus, including the six-on-five equalizer. He has a league-leading 13 goals in March.<\/p>\n Zacha is the three-zone conscience of the second line. He works the goal line on the No. 1 power-play unit. He kills penalties.\u00a0<\/p>\n The 28-year-old has one season remaining on his $4.75 million annual contract. He could double his take.<\/p>\n Haula played for the Devils for three seasons and is now with the Nashville Predators.<\/p>\n Grade: A+<\/p>\n Casey Mittelstadt, Will Zellers and a 2025 second-round pick from the Colorado Avalanche for Charlie Coyle and a 2026 fifth-rounder<\/p>\n Mittelstadt has turned his career around by becoming a trustworthy No. 2 left wing<\/a>. Coach Marco Sturm promoted Mittelstadt to the first PP unit against the Blue Jackets. He is signed through 2027 at $5.75 million annually.\u00a0<\/p>\n Zellers has 18 goals as a North Dakota freshman and is rated by The Athletic\u2019s Scott Wheeler<\/a> as Boston\u2019s third-best prospect. The Bruins drafted Swedish defenseman Liam Pettersson in the second round.<\/p>\n Coyle plays for Columbus after the Avalanche traded him last offseason.<\/p>\n Grade: A+<\/p>\n Fraser Minten, a conditional 2026 first-round pick and a 2025 fourth-rounder from the Toronto Maple Leafs, for Brandon Carlo<\/p>\n Minten, 21, is the Bruins\u2019 No. 1 center. He works the bumper on the second PP unit. He kills penalties. He has one season left on his entry-level contract.<\/p>\n Sturm has repeatedly praised Minten for his hockey IQ and low-maintenance approach. The left-shot center could be a future captain.<\/p>\n If the Leafs do not finish among the NHL\u2019s five worst teams this season, the Bruins get their 2026 first-rounder. Picking No. 6, for example, could net the Bruins a prospect with an even higher ceiling than Minten\u2019s.<\/p>\n Carlo\u2019s addition could not help the Leafs advance past the second round last year. He will be unrestricted after 2027.<\/p>\n Grade: A+<\/p>\n Marat Khusnutdinov, Jakub Lauko and a 2026 sixth-round pick from the Minnesota Wild for Justin Brazeau<\/p>\n Khusnutdinov is the Bruins\u2019 No. 1 left wing. Sturm likes how he pursues pucks, plays in dangerous ice and applies speed and skill between the dots. Khusnutdinov also has experience centering David Pastrnak, and the two work well together.<\/p>\n Brazeau scored one goal in 19 games for the Wild. He signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins in July.<\/p>\n Grade: A+<\/p>\n Hampus Lindholm from the Anaheim Ducks for Urho Vaakanainen, a 2022 first-round pick, a 2023 second-round pick, a 2024 second-round pick and John Moore<\/p>\n Lindholm is the team\u2019s No. 2 defenseman. His return from a broken kneecap is one of the reasons the Bruins are in a playoff position. The alternate captain plays in all situations.<\/p>\n Vaakanainen is in his second season with the New York Rangers. None of the players the Ducks drafted (Nathan Gaucher, Damian Clara, Stian Stolberg) has appeared in the NHL.<\/p>\n Grade: A+<\/p>\n Mark Kastelic, Joonas Korpisalo and a 2024 first-round pick from the Ottawa Senators for Linus Ullmark<\/p>\n Kastelic put his safety on the line against Columbus by fighting<\/a> Mathieu Olivier. The No. 4 right wing has a career-high nine goals. He\u2019s averaging 2:08 per game on the penalty kill, second-most among team forwards.\u00a0<\/p>\n Korpisalo has an .891 save percentage as the No. 2 goalie. He\u2019s signed through 2028 at $3 million per season.<\/p>\n The Bruins used the first-round pick to draft Dean Letourneau. He exploded for 22 goals as a Boston College sophomore after failing to score as a freshman. The 6-foot-7, 228-pound center could become the Bruins\u2019 version of Tage Thompson as a skilled right-shot behemoth. He\u2019s second in Wheeler\u2019s Bruins prospect rankings<\/a>.<\/p>\n
