For Philadelphia, this trade-up suggestion doesn\u2019t come with one specific target. Maybe the Eagles want a pass rusher. Perhaps a pass catcher, with rumors that they\u2019ll trade A.J. Brown wafting in the wind. How about Lane Johnson\u2019s eventual replacement at right tackle? There\u2019s also a starting safety job open. This would be more about opportunity for Howie Roseman, the ultimate opportunist on draft day. No GM has appeared as flexible during live draft action, ready to swing a blockbuster (e.g., giving the No. 18 overall pick to Tennessee in exchange for Brown in 2022) or make shorter jumps (going from No. 12 to No. 10 for DeVonta Smith in 2021, going from No. 10 to No. 9 for Jalen Carter in 2023) to get their guy. If a top-10 player on the Eagles\u2019 board slips into the teens, watch out. It has been a quieter offseason so far, and you just know Roseman is itching to strike. We saw early in the season before bringing Graham back and trading for Phillips how the lack of pass rush effected the secondary. Once the Eagles had a pass rush, they didn’t have an issue at CB2 anymore. This is the difference between an elite defense and a defense that gives up too many yards and points at the end of games. There are a few names that could seemingly be up for grabs on draft day. Obviously the big names like Garrett and Crosby would be massive additions to the defense but they’re going to take up a lot of salary cap and they’re both going to cost you some major draft capital. The Eagles have some ammunition to make a trade but they also have a lot of holes to fill on their team and some core pieces left to pay. I think I would target either Greenard or Sweat and run a platoon of solid pass rushers who can win 1 on 1 on the edge with Carter and Davis eating up double teams<\/p>\n Address the offensive line with players who are ready to play immediately. I would trade for Becton. I don’t think it would cost them much, maybe a mid round pick. They need a veteran who can step in and play at guard and tackle and Becton has had a lot of success here already. Becton could also be the successor to Lane Johnson. It’s not enough to just make 1 trade, though. The Eagles need a guy on the interior who can play if Dickerson misses time this year and who can eventually replace him. <\/p>\n Add a player who can become a number 2 option in the passing game. I’m not sure the Eagles will take a massive cap hit to lose one of their best players for anything less than 2 premium draft picks. He might trade AJ but I just don’t see him doing it without getting substantial compensation. I think the Eagles would just be in much better position to trade him if they wait a year. If it’s me, that’s what I’m telling him. Like, we went and traded for you. We paid you twice and we won a ring together. You can give us a year so we’re not screwed if we trade you. Fair is fair but you still need to prepare. I would target Sadiq. TE is a position where if you get an elite player, they’re more cost effective than a WR and sometimes just as effective. They already have Smitty on a good contract.<\/p>\n Add another dynamic running back. The Eagles are at their best when they’re running the football. I like Saquon and Bigsby but I think right now in football the running back position is once again becoming a position of value. It’s becoming a pre-requisite of an effective offense for most of the league. Even Patrick Mahomes looks human without production from the running backs. It’s also an extremely cost effective position. It has a lot of turnover but you’re usually drafting players who can play effectively immediately. <\/p>\n I’d try to find a starter in the interior of the offensive line in the 3rd or 4th <\/p>\n I would try to find a receiver that can return punts <\/p>\n I’d take a safety in the middle rounds. I’m actually fine with him starting. He plays assignment sound which is all you need with the talent the Eagles have in the secondary. Epps played well, I thought.<\/p>\n I might even take a kicker with one of those late round picks. Pairing an elite kicker with Mann would give us a major edge in critical situations throughout the season. After a slew of one-year deals, the Eagles finally signed a newcomer to a multi-year contract, bringing in linebacker Chandler Martin. Despite being at the owners meeting this week, Howie Roseman is still finding ways to get deals done.<\/p>\n
Sirianni has kept in contact with franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts this offseason, although the communication has not focused on football with Hurts set to play for his seventh play-caller in seven seasons. League rules restrict the nature of scheme-specific conversation before the start of the offseason program next month, and Sirianni also thinks it\u2019s important that Hurts does not hear him obsess over red zone or third down in the middle of Hurts\u2019 book tour. \u201cI think it\u2019s really important that these guys get some time away from us,\u201d Sirianni said. \u201cThe conversations I\u2019ve had with Jalen since the end of the season are more just checking in and see how everything\u2019s going, and there\u2019ll be a time and place to talk about that. \u2026Because right now we\u2019re limited (by league rules) in what we can talk to them about and everything like that, but I think it\u2019s really important that they get some time.\u201d
The Eagles believe Hurts is a strong fit for their new offensive scheme under offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, which has its roots in the Sean McVay\/Kyle Shanahan tree. Sirianni pointed to the Eagles-Vikings game last season, when Hurts had a perfect passer rating, including 4 of 4 for 121 yards and one touchdown on under-center play-action passes \u2014 something that will be more prominently featured this season. \u201cHe\u2019s been very effective over the years with play-action passes,\u201d Sirianni said. \u201cAnd there\u2019s things that are very unique to Jalen that we\u2019ve done here that will be good, too. \u2026Jalen, one thing you guys know about Jalen that I know about Jalen, is that this dude works his butt off in anything he needs to do. He\u2019ll go any direction he needs to go. That\u2019s what he admires so much about him \u2014 he\u2019ll go any direction he needs to go to win football games.\u201d<\/p>\n
On one hand, that seems like a major win, to hire three of your top candidates. On the other hand, there could be some concern about a too-many-cooks-in-the-kitchen situation with all of these high-level offensive minds in the same building and in the same meetings. But head coach Nick Sirianni isn\u2019t worried about that. \u201cI\u2019ve never had a scenario where you have too many good coaches,\u201d Sirianni said at the NFL\u2019s annual meetings on Monday morning. Sirianni called it a \u201cunique opportunity\u201d to add Johnson to the coaching staff later in the process after Johnson and the Houston Texans parted ways. Sirianni has previously coached with Johnson and he also mentioned that Johnson has familiarity with the system the Eagles plan on running in 2026.<\/p>\n
The Eagles have been pumping up Smith this offseason, maybe in anticipation of moving him up the pecking order. But Brown still draws defensive attention, even if it became increasingly clear last season that he\u2019s losing inches in separation. Some of that may have been a lack of effort stemming from frustration with the quarterback and the offense, but there is also the specter of a nearing expiration date for knees that have given Brown problems during his career. It may seem counterproductive to move on from a great player, but Brown leaving could offer Roseman his only chance to alter the makeup of the personnel on offense. That could come in the form of draft picks. This year\u2019s crop of receiver prospects is said to be deep. A tight end could also be in play. But the Eagles can\u2019t be wishing and hoping that rookies will step into prominent roles. Roseman did sign free agent Hollywood Brown to replace Jahan Dotson as the third receiver. It\u2019s an upgrade on paper, but a lesser spot in the starting lineup.<\/p>\n
On signing OLB Arnold Ebiketie: \u201cHe\u2019s a guy that we had done a lot of work on during that 2022 NFL Draft, as we had done with Riq Woolen. We had a good feel for the person, and we had a good feel for the qualities of the player, and we\u2019ve seen him in the NFL and we\u2019ve seen how that skill set has translated at this level. What he does can fit in what we try to do in our defense. We\u2019re adding an edge rusher who has had production. He was in a system in Atlanta that was similar to ours, and he had back-to-back seasons of six quarterback sacks in 2023 and 2024. He knows the area. He\u2019s a high-character guy and is still young and he has room to grow to reach his ceiling.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trade talk regarding Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown has remained rampant this offseason, particularly in connection with the New England Patriots as a suitor. Inside Gillette Stadium, however, those talks have apparently not been as common of late. \u201dA.J. Brown is a member of the Eagles, as [Eagles\u2019 GM] Howie [Roseman] mentioned yesterday. We haven\u2019t had any conversations about anything regarding that in a long time,\u201d Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf said Monday on the Up & Adams Show.<\/p>\n
The Eagles potentially trading Brown has been one of the most-discussed stories of this NFL offseason. It hasn\u2019t happened yet, but Snead confirmed it\u2019s not just a much-discussed story among fans and the media. Those discussions are happening in NFL front offices as well.<\/p>\n
The Dallas Cowboys appear to be in the mix for a veteran linebacker. Who is that veteran linebacker? That would be Jordyn Brooks of the Miami Dolphins. It was reported a few weeks ago that the Cowboys were interested in Brooks, and on Monday it was reported by the Miami Herald that Dallas has indeed made a phone call to South Beach.<\/p>\n
Washington Commanders majority partner Josh Harris and general manager Adam Peters talked to local reporters at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix, AZ today. Head coach Dan Quinn spoke with the media earlier in the day. Harris gave updates on the new stadium, uniforms, the Commanders name, and talked about his confidence in Peters and Quinn. He said nobody was happy with last season\u2019s results, but he liked Quinn\u2019s process in selecting two new coordinators. Harris was asked about Jayden Daniels playing flag football for Tom Brady\u2019s event, and admitted he was nervous, but said he trusted Daniels.<\/p>\n
Beckham, 34, would like to return to the NFL after not playing in 2025. His one-handed touchdown catch in the Fanatics Flag Football Classic has diehard Beckham boosters in the Giants fan base dreaming of a return for the 2014 first-round pick. Harbaugh coached Beckham in Baltimore in 2023, the last time Beckham was a productive NFL player. He did not dismiss the idea. \u201cYou look at every option, right? If Odell is an option then we\u2019ll be looking at it,\u201d Harbaugh said. \u201cHe and I do talk and we do text, and we\u2019ve maintained a really great relationship. He\u2019s one of my very favorite people in the world. \u201cWe\u2019ll have to see where it all goes. What\u2019s best for him, what\u2019s best for the Giants. That\u2019s the number one thing, what\u2019s best for our team.\u201d<\/p>\n
The prospect of the NFL migrating to an 18-game regular season might still be years away, but there has been no shortage of conversation about the idea at this week\u2019s NFL annual league meeting. With the recent installation of a new executive director at the NFL Players Association in JC Tretter, and with the continued expansion of the league\u2019s international slate of games, momentum appears to be slowly building toward a push for an additional regular-season contest while scaling back to two preseason games. \u201cI think that if we can make it work, I do think that it would be good,\u201d Indianapolis Colts owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon said Sunday. \u201cI think preseason is, as far as the fan product goes, the commissioner has openly said that it\u2019s not the best product that we have. It is, I would say, for development of our team. I don\u2019t think we can get rid of it. \u201cBut I think as long as the players want it — which I think they would, because it would mean more revenue — I think [it\u2019s] ultimately a better product. I think it\u2019s reasonable. It\u2019s something we should work toward.\u201d<\/p>\n
