{"id":556677,"date":"2026-03-31T18:53:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T18:53:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/556677\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T18:53:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T18:53:10","slug":"end-ice-sculpture-featured-at-weekend-no-kings-rally-vandalized-on-boston-common","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/556677\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018END ICE\u2019 sculpture featured at weekend No Kings rally vandalized on Boston Common"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">A massive ice sculpture bearing the slogan \u201cEnd ICE\u201d that drew notice<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2026\/03\/28\/nation\/no-kings-protests-trump-live-updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2026\/03\/28\/nation\/no-kings-protests-trump-live-updates\/\"> at Saturday\u2019s \u201cNo Kings\u201d rally<\/a> on Boston Common was knocked over by a vandal, the artist said Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cThe sculpture was vandalized on two separate occasions, the first being during the daytime when the word \u2018I.c.e.\u2019 was knocked over,\u201d Kat Dressler, a Connecticut-based artist who carved the sculpture, said in a statement. \u201cI know this because I received an email from a witness (who was unable to get a photograph or video in time). The word End was knocked over several hours later.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">A Boston police spokesperson couldn\u2019t immediately be reached for comment. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">The vandalism was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/local-news\/2026\/03\/30\/ice-sculpture-carved-for-bostons-no-kings-rally-destroyed-by-vandals-organizers-say\/?p1=hp_secondary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/local-news\/2026\/03\/30\/ice-sculpture-carved-for-bostons-no-kings-rally-destroyed-by-vandals-organizers-say\/?p1=hp_secondary\">first reported<\/a> by Boston.com.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cA police report was attempted to be made, but after calling the police we were told a report had to be made on-site in person,\u201d Dressler said. \u201cWe sent someone to the scene, and they not only drove there but waited 45 minutes to make a report, and the police did not show while our person was there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">She said she\u2019ll try to file a police report when she returns to Boston on Wednesday for other reasons. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Dressler said it\u2019s not just her sculpture that\u2019s been targeted by vandals at the various \u201cNo Kings\u201d rallies around the country. Throngs of demonstrators <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2026\/03\/31\/opinion\/letters-no-kings-rallies-boston-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2026\/03\/31\/opinion\/letters-no-kings-rallies-boston-us\/\">have attended the rallies<\/a> to decry the Trump administration\u2019s abuses. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cI have seen another similar ice sculpture be vandalized, one that read \u2018prosecute I.c.e.,\u2019\u201d Dressler said. She said the perpetrator \u201cvandalized the sculpture to say \u2018pro ice,\u2019 so I intentionally designed mine that no matter how it was vandalized, the message would still be \u2018END ICE,\u2019 because the perpetrator would be literally \u2018ending i.c.e.\u2019\u201d by damaging the sculpture. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"img-XFDQY2JVDFFDNOXWJ6L6AWZICU-image\" alt=\"The &quot;END ICE&quot; sculpture after vandals knocked it over on the Common.\" class=\"height_a width_full invisible width_full--mobile width_full--tablet-only\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/XFDQY2JVDFFDNOXWJ6L6AWZICU.jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/>The &#8220;END ICE&#8221; sculpture after vandals knocked it over on the Common.Kat Dressler\/HANDOUT<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Dressler said she\u2019s glad her work apparently touched a nerve. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cI am grateful the sculpture was able to be seen and enjoyed by 100k+ people at the protest before its vandalism,\u201d Dressler said. \u201cAnd I\u2019m grateful in knowing that the sculpture\u2019s message was so powerful that it bothered someone enough to \u2018interact\u2019 with it that way. I\u2019m especially grateful for the additional publicity the vandalism has given the sculpture and the message.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">The vandalism itself, she said, doesn\u2019t hit that hard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cThe sculpture was scheduled to be taken down the next morning anyways, so it\u2019s really not much of a bother to me\u2014 it had its time,&#8221; Dressler said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">But she remains focused on identifying those responsible. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cTo discourage future vandalism to activist art in the future, I will be attempting to seek camera footage from the park to identify the perpetrators,\u201d Dressler said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Material from previous Globe coverage was used in this report.
