{"id":55791,"date":"2025-08-03T17:27:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T17:27:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/55791\/"},"modified":"2025-08-03T17:27:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T17:27:11","slug":"longtime-nhl-goaltender-announces-retirement-at-age-39","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/55791\/","title":{"rendered":"Longtime NHL Goaltender Announces Retirement at Age 39"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/584373.webp.webp\" style=\"width:100%;\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Former Stars goaltender Anton Khudobin\" title=\"Former Stars goaltender Anton Khudobin\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Photo credit: The Dallas Morning News<\/p>\n<p>Former Dallas Stars goaltender Anton Khudobin, who also played for the Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes and Anaheim Ducks, has officially announced his retirement from professional hockey.<\/p>\n<p>Former Dallas Stars goaltender Anton Khudobin, who helped them reach the 2020 Stanley Cup Final in the NHL&#8217;s &#8220;bubble&#8221; during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, has announced his retirement from professional hockey.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/584375.webp.webp\" width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" loading=\"lazy\" defer=\"defer\"\/><\/p>\n<p>He was taken with the 206th overall pick by the Minnesota Wild in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, and started his career with the club before being traded in 2011 to the Boston Bruins for Jeff Penner and Mikko Lehtonen.<\/p>\n<p>After a tenure with the Bruins, he signed with the Carolina Hurricanes but was later traded to the Anaheim Ducks for James Wisniewski.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, he returned to the Bruins on a 2 year contract to once again serve as backup to Tuukka Rask.<\/p>\n<p>After completing that deal, he joined the Stars on a 2 year contract, and would go 14-10-1 during the 2020 postseason, helping the Stars to within a pair of wins of what would have been their 1st Stanley Cup since 1999.<\/p>\n<p>He then signed a 3 year contract to stay in Dallas, but would be sent to the AHL after being waived in December 2021. He would later be traded to the Chicago Blackhawks for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markerzone.com\/hockey\/stats\/nhl\/player\/Max-Domi-29778\" class=\"lien_marqueur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Max Domi profile and hockey stats\">Max Domi<\/a> and Dylan Wells, where he would conclude his NHL career.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s spent the last 2 years playing overseas in Russia.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, he went 114-92-33 with a 2.52 GAA, a .916 SV% and had 11 shutouts in 260 career NHL games.
