BEAUMONT, Texas \u2014 A Beaumont doctor was disciplined last week for failing to meet the standard of care for a pregnant patient and her unborn child who both later died, according to a Wednesday news release from the Texas Medical Board.<\/p>\n
Dr. Ali Mohamed Osman, a board-certified emergency medicine physician licensed in Texas since 2003, failed to appropriately treat the patient’s infection or provide fetal monitoring in the emergency department before discharging her, the Texas Medical Board ruled on March 27, 2026. This “delay in care ultimately resulted in the death of both the patient and her unborn child due to complications of pregnancy,” according to the Texas Medical Board.<\/p>\n
The physician noted a normal physical exam in the medical record but did not record the “presence of a pregnant uterus nor the size of the baby on the abdominal exam,” the Texas Medical Board found. Osman did not elicit fetal heart tones or perform an ultrasound while the patient was in the emergency department, according to the Texas Medical Board. Furthermore, the doctor “violated hospital policy by not sending the patient to labor and delivery for fetal heart monitoring after the patient was discharged from the emergency department,” according to the Texas Medical Board.<\/p>\n
The patient visited the emergency department twice more and was observed in a labor and delivery unit before she and the unborn baby died due to “complications of pregnancy and delay of adequate care,” according to the Texas Medical Board. Osman must complete eight hours of continuing medical education within one year, including four hours on risk management and four hours on emergency obstetrics practice and risk factors, the Texas Medical Board ordered. The physician is also required to provide a copy of this order to all hospitals and health care entities where he has privileges or practices in Texas, according to the Texas Medical Board.<\/p>\n
Osman “neither admits nor denies the information” in the findings but agreed to the order to avoid the “expense and inconvenience of litigation,” according to the Texas Medical Board. The order will automatically terminate once Osman submits evidence that he has completed the required education and notification of facilities, according to the Texas Medical Board.
