\n\tGladys, the breakout character from Zach Cregger<\/a>\u2018s Weapons<\/a>, is ready to steal the whole show.<\/p>\n

\n\tCregger and screenwriter Zach Shields, known for his work on the Monsterverse<\/a> franchise, are penning the script for a planned prequel feature for the filmmaker\u2019s 2025 horror hit. Gladys is the working title for the project that is in development at New Line Cinema<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tCentering on a group of children who go missing in the middle of the night, Weapons hit theaters in August from Warner Bros.<\/a> and collected $270 million\u00a0at the global box office. The cast included Julia Garner, Josh Brolin and Amy Madigan<\/a>, with the latter earning the best supporting actress Oscar for her role as Aunt Gladys.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Hollywood Reporter previously reported that Cregger was mulling a prequel movie<\/a> to focus on the origin story of Aunt Gladys\u2019 arrival to town.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cZach has a map of what he would like to do,\u201d Madigan told THR<\/a> late last year about a possible prequel. \u201cIt would be such a blast, and it would be really great if we could revisit her in some way. I\u2019m excited about that possibility.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tCregger, who is also known for directing Barbarian and is working on Resident Evil for Sony, returns as a producer for the prequel alongside Vertigo Entertainment\u2019s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon. Cregger is represented by CAA, Artists First and\u00a0Karl Austen and Michael Auerbach. <\/p>\n

\n\tAustin Abrams, Paul Walter Hauser and Zach Cherry star in Resident Evil, with the film that reboots the video game property set to hit theaters Sept. 18. <\/p>\n

\n\tShields recently worked on Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire\u00a0for Warner Bros. and Legendary. His previous credits include Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Universal\u2019s Krampus. Shields is repped by Range Media Partners and Hirsch Wallerstein.<\/p>\n
