Ole Miss<\/a> head coach Pete Golding<\/a> responded to Dabo Swinney\u2019s<\/a> tampering accusations from January regarding Luke Ferrelli<\/a>. Ferrelli, a linebacker, flipped his transfer commitment from Clemson<\/a> to Ole Miss after originally committing to the Tigers on January 6th.<\/p>\n

Just 16 days later, Ferrelli re-entered the portal and Swinney accused Golding of blatant tampering to get him to Oxford.<\/a> However, Golding broke his silence as spring practice continued on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, I think there\u2019s two sides to every story,\u201d Golding said.<\/a> \u201cI\u2019m not going to sit up here and use the podium as a grandstand and all that. That\u2019s why there is enforcement. That\u2019s why we have a compliance office, that they do all that. So, the bottom line, the recruitment of Luke, he came on an official visit prior to the Fiesta Bowl, and I told him, \u2018Hey, I want you to be our green-dot Mike, but right now we got a green-dot Mike. And that spot\u2019s not going to be available until we have one available.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I want you. He wants to be here. I said, \u2018But right now there ain\u2019t a spot available. So, if that spot becomes available, it\u2019s yours.\u2019 It\u2019s a kid that wanted to be here, that we wanted to be here, that at the end of it, came open, and he\u2019s here, and we\u2019re happy to have him.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not the way Swinney saw it. Ferrelli was barely on campus with the Tigers for two weeks, sparking Swinney to directly call Ole Miss out months ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cListen, this guy has been a head coach for four weeks,\u201d Swinney recalled saying, when detailing the tampering this winter. \u201cI said, \u2018You reach out to the GM. I\u2019m going to give him some grace. And you let him know that we know what\u2019s going on, and if he doesn\u2019t cease communication, I\u2019m going to turn him in.\u2019 I really thought that would be the end of it, but it wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026There\u2019s tampering. And then, there\u2019s blatant tampering,\u201d Swinney said<\/a> at the time. \u201cTampering 101 is when you\u2019re talking to kids who aren\u2019t in the portal, Tampering 201 is when you\u2019ve already negotiated the deal with the kids not in the portal.<\/p>\n

\u201cTampering 301 is when you\u2019ve got a kid who\u2019s going in the portal to sign somewhere, move there, going to classes and you\u2019re texting them while they\u2019re in class.
